Gotta wonder ... Sedins' future?

i personally think the twins have lots of game left. theyve never relied on speed or beating players one on one.... they play as a unit and i see now reason why that would change. sure the scoring might fall into the 60 point range, but i can see them being effective leaders into their late 30s.

theyll retire canucks to the shagrin of the pro rebuilders. dont worry though, hamhuis and vrbata should give us 2 more 1st rounders for next years draft... with which well package up for a top 3 pick.... and then we have cap space to sign a major ufa...

dont worry, good things are coming

It depends on what they want to do.

I think the appropriate move would be to be completely up front.

Ask them if they are wanting another run for a cup before they retire or are they comfortable finishing their careers with this team in it's "transition" phase.

Leave it up to them, they deserve the respect.

I think that we forget that these hockey players are just regular people .. people with families , children and the stress of everyday life . The sedins have made a life for themselves in vancouver and sweden .. If you think that they will pick up and displace their kids and wives to win a cup then you dont know who these 2 characters are ..

What if wife(wives) said, go for it, you guys deserve another crack at the Cup. Kids are young, for a couple of years, why not move and treat it as an adventure. I mean how cool is it to live in another city for a year or two. Not saying they're going to permanently move to wherever and live there forever. I know people who make a lot less $$ move for all kinds of reasons.

you can't possibly have enough insite about me to claim that I am wrong

how do you know them so well? I think scenario is very possible and very reasonable.

Sedins earned the right to decide their own future. If they approach JB for a trade, then JB honors them and trade them to a contender, Anaheim please (it is like a mini Canucks core there). JB should not even try to approach them about trades. I hope they have enough in the tank to ride this transition/rebuild phase out so that they have one more crack at the cup here when the new core have taken over.

you could be right . I doubt it will happen because of the age of their kids .. really tough to uproot your children like that . I know that many nhlers do what they have to do but if they could choose , most would want their families to feel secure where they are .. wouldn't you ? the no trade clause is a popular one , and a tough one to get in your contract . you truly have to earn that . I believe the sedins have .

They deserve a cup. Sadly, they won't win one with Vancouver. Maybe not now, but when they are on thee last year of their contracts, ship em to a contender, retain some salary. Maybe we can get a decent return.

true if we're trading Sedins it's because we are not going to be contending for a cup for that time frame.

I'd imagine every team would want Sedins at 7m for both... lol not going to happen anyways

Do any of their kids play? If so, do a Gordie Howe and stick around long enough to play on the same team as them, at least for one season.

depends if the nhl allows girls to play in the nhl .. henrik has 2 boys , daniel has 2 girls

Don't know how things will all shake out after today but

Nashville has 22.8 cap space, they're not bad.

Washington has 19.4 cap space, they're not bad.

St. Louis has 14.2 cap space they're not bad ... but I think they lost some good players today.

...

Nashville has space under the cap limit, but also has an internal cap they can't afford to spend over. They also have to sign 6 more players.

Washington needs to sign 4 more players. Two of them are Kuznetsov and Johanssen so they'll be due for raises and the Caps will start to see that space shrink.

St Louis has 17 players signed so 6 more to sign - one of which is Tarasenko and will be due for a large raise.

I just don't see any really competitive team that would have the cap space as well as the assets to trade for the Sedins yet also be willing to revamp their top 6 pretty significantly to trade for both. They aren't going to go separately.

Well, with all that is going on and the direction of this team clearly heading to rebuild, doesn't look like it will be competitive for the next 2-3 years.

Q: will Benning and Linden give the Sedins a choice to go to a contender (one that can afford their salary). Out of respect, not ask them to waive NTC but just do the right thing for the Sedins.

Obviously you never got the memo, lol. When Benning and Linden met with Kesler to discuss the direction of the team, their vision was the Canucks wouldn't be legit contenders for 4 years while they developed which is why Kesler chose to leave because he wasn't willing to wait that long. That's why I never understood the grief over the Miller signing. Who cares if he's our starter for 3 years. We're not supposed to be contenders during this time. He's at least solid enough to keep us competitive during this time.

As for the Sedins, I think they're quite happy playing here until their contracts run out which is fine with me as it gives our prospects some class and talent to develop around. Besides as others pointed out, there are no contenders that have $14 million in cap space to acquire them and I also don't think the Sedins really want to leave Vancouver for just a shot (no guarantee whatsoever) of a Cup. They have more loyalty to this team though they'll be criticized for it by many on CDC for it.

If the Sedins disappeared off the roster who would take their place?

There is nobody in the system who is ready to take 1st line minutes. There are a few who have the potential but until there is somebody who is ready, who is going to replace 70+ points? And we need 2 guys like that.

Let's just say that in a couple of years the Sedin's production falls to 50 points each. At that point, there may be other players in the system who could score more.

This is all hypothetical. The style they play, I wouldn't be surprised if they get extended. :bigblush:

I think they go down with the ship. Slowly but surely, maybe in 2017 they become our 2nd line players and after that, 3rd liners. Eventually we'll be left with this:

Baertschi - Horvat - Virtanen

Shinkaruk - McCann - UFA sniper

Sedin - Sedin - Jensen

Dorsett - Gaunce - Boeser

IMO I don't think they're going anywhere.. If I can recall they have a "special" relationship with Trevor.

Also I believe that they might just retire after their contract expires...I will be devastated literally devastated if they were ever on a another team..

I want them to retire as Canucks for life.

As much as I love the Sedins' if we are truly rebuilding we should look to turn them into some kind of asset moving forward. Not this year but perhaps at the trade deadline of their last year.
