Boston didn't will their way to the cup, they beat a canuck team that was missing half their D and 2/3 of their 2nd line. Also they had Thomas, Chara and Bergevin. It's not like they didn't have some of the top players in the world.

You're acting like Benning saying he wants character is something revolutionary. Most hockey people say the same thing.

If there's a hockey team that's like the Patriots it's the Blackhawks. Canucks are more like the Bengals.

Also some of the worst calls ever made by the zebras in a Stanley cup final!

Have you forgotten the Boston series? Marchand became a household name from that series because of his character. That whole Boston team "willed" their way to a Stanley Cup. I was so ashamed that my beloved Canucks had zero spine and essentially turtled.

I couldn't disagree more.

Marchand is the last "character" I want on my team. He was a little pest sent out to piss off the Sedins and Kesler, and it worked. He played great which didn't hurt either. But again, he has a terrible attitude.

And the comment about having zero spine, I know you didn't mean it but can we not forget that Mason Raymond literally broke his back for this team.

The Canucks fought as hard as they could. We beat some tough teams to make it to the finals. But we also had a LOT of injuries.

I feel like you read an article that inspired you to write this topic. But that's just me.

Troll?! I don't even know what that means?! I had to wait to be approved by admin--so yes I did "just join".

I'm a 40 year old father of twin boys, who grew up in Prince George and was raised in YVR. I played a myriad of competitive sports and hockey at a high level. I'm not just talking out of my a$$.

I was there in 1994 and in 2011 (meaning physically present at the hockey games) and I'm passionate about sport in general and my beloved Canucks.

I've been following close and had wanted to share my perspective and opinion. If "trolling" means that I have a life...than yes I'm a "troll". My twins have been active in competitive sports and Montessori since 3 years of age so registering and commenting are the last things I want to do.

It's a holiday week here and I took this opportunity to voice my opinion--I've worked hard for this free time. I take offense to a**holes like yourself who make totally baseless and insidious comments...

Zero fu**s given if you ban me. I know what it takes to be successful. I guess you really are the spineless mungs that burned my city down--again. Pathetic. I'm glad you could put your joystick down and stop gaming (or viewing free porn) to state your comments.

Genius.

To the true fans: Canucks will trump the Hawks as far as dynasty or legacy is concerned. More importantly, for everyone involved...we will have a quality, competitive, durable product for decades. Resulting in: Championships.

What a waste of time. Go, Canucks, go!

Right on dude.

Unfortunately, most people on here are very young and have not one clue about life, with limited experience but have the same perceived equal value as working adults when opinions are concerned.

13 year old Emos.

Nothing will change except those very same people will eventually have their finger on the bomb buttons, but without souls, ethics and principles.

Ive been on these boards here and there as someone new over the years, so I just became "new" again... I could never remember passwords or old user names and email accounts, pretty much because I have a life outside of sitting on the computer! The funniest thing about this "fan base" especially on CDC is many believe that the number of posts you have made is significant towards your overall knowledge of the game and the team, whats even funnier is it seems the ones who have been on here the longest seem to be the most idiotic of the bunch lol

Belicheck gets questioned every year when he releases one of his star veterans, and people say this is the year the Pats suck... but it never happens because he sticks to his guts and overall strategy for the team. I think Linden realized this when he visited them.

They really got to a great place of reloading. That's what we need to do. Hopefully by 2018 we'll see it.

It's also interesting too that Linden has been saying that he, Benning, and Willie all share the same vision and everyone's on the same page. It's absolutely crucial that ownership is as well. This is a common theme when you look at the success of the Pats and Spurs. All levels were on the same page and always working together toward one common goal from a plan they stuck to through the changes.

Marchand stood toe to toe with Sedin and "slapped the sh**" out him. Nothing cowardly about that. Thomas cleared and owned his crease. Nothing "ahole" about that.

My point is Pats were never the pats before the new regime. That's where this franchise is heading...

definitely cowardly going after sedins haha what did you just say?!?! lol

Sorry, a team with zero championships can be compared to the Patriots because the Patriots went 40 years before winning their first one. So, exploring how they turned it around is extremely relevant given where we are and the management's plan to turn around the team. Even more relevant when you read the OP. No one's saying the Canucks are the Patriots.

As a father myself, and a free thinking individual, I will say this: we are all free to choose what we will for our children. That said, after having done the research, and my wife having dealt directly as a peer with students that came from the Montessori educational system... well, my daughter WON'T be participating.

Regarding the OP, I agree with parts of what your saying. The Vancouver Canucks culture the past decade really has not been the greatest. Every iteration of the team really has been predicated on building around the Sedins. As the centerpieces of this team, the Sedins really have done a fine job, considering they really haven't a quality line mate for any consistent or meaningful period of time for the duration of their careers; Burrows has been the "best fit" and that's saying a lot.

What I'm getting at, is the concept of building around the Sedins really has been a fallacy, and it's the persistence of that fallacy that has landed the team in the mess it's presently in. Among the miss management of assets, player retention and poor drafting, the Canucks the past 10 years have resembled a stock exchange ticker more than a natural bell curve.

Linden and Benning are beginning to correct that, and focusing on getting players into the organization that regardless of their position on the depth chart, they can get their job done. The height of the Sedins success is due in large part of the ingenious coaching of Alain Vigneault than the team that Burke/Nonis/Gillis "built" around them, not to discredit or discount their own abilities and what they're capable of.

It's a little saddening to see some of the responses, it's almost as if the majority of posters here don't even have a high school level education; when people can't distinguish between metaphorical and literal comparison, it's a sad day indeed.

Did I read this correctly?

I may be slightly confused, You give the Sedins some credit and then use hindsight and say it was wrong to build a team with them?

It was a mistake to build around the Sedins, who were involved in the Hart and Art Ross Trophies ,Ted Lindsay Award (voted MVP by their peers), 1st All star team, won Olympic Gold Medals, took a very injured/depleted team to within 60 minutes of winning our 1st Stanley Cup (against a league that didn't even follow their own rulebook) and those accomplishments were mostly because of Vigneault? (Whom as much as I like AV, thought he was out coached at times in the final series)

You state Linden and Benning are correcting that now ?

Vigneault/Gilles had it (Only key players were injured/suspended)

You also state they haven't had a quality line mate (but I thought the team was built for them)?

Maybe I took this wrong and can blame it on my education , but If I take it like I believe, that you think the Sedins were a mistake then I will end my posting like you did, and say you are correct, it's a sad day indeed

It is truly sad to see the Sedins don't get the respect they deserve. I started watching hockey because of them, because of how they had changed hockey into something magical. I love them. But sometimes I really wish they to go to another city where people will actually respect their talent and not take it for granted, they deserve that much. Heck they deserve the cup! I mean in what other sport do you have twin brothers playing together, and creating magic and playing their butts of night in night out. Yet, they choose to stay here, in this city because they absolutely love playing here. Just goes to show how humble, and how loyal they are despite the fact that so called "fans" here choose to ignore everything they have done, everything they have accomplished, and how much they have given back to the community. I am sick of everyone treating them as if they are expendable. Guess what they are not, in fact they aren't even fan favourites here. The day the Sedins leave this city, it will indeed be a sad day. And at that time people will realize just how lucky they were to watch hockey during the Sedins era.

Rant over.

Come on guys, don't take this thread seriously, created by someone registered 5 days ago that's so high on Boston (probably a Pats fan?).

I see nothing in correlation with the Pats and the Canucks, Belichick is the Flavio Briatore of the NFL (look up who Flavio Briatore is if you don't know), I can't think of anyone as close to that in the NHL.

This was Benning/Linden's first season and you're already saying they know what it takes?

PS- the "Marchand stood toe to toe with Sedin"... hahah Sedins aren't physical, Marchand should stand toe to toe with John Scott next time and see what happens.
