NHL'er
Jim, how do you justify signing Dorsett and Sbisa to bloated deals when they would have received much less had you actually waited until free agency? Jim, how do you justify giving up a fifth round pick and a 24 year old forward for an 31 year old Brandon Prust? Jim, how do you justify re-signing Weber when you have stated on numerous occasions that Corrado and Clendenning are ready for the NHL?
NHL'er
Jim, how do you justify publicly stating (to both your players and the rest of the league) that you are unsure of where Hamhuis and Vrbata fit in in the team's plans beyond this season?
NHL'er
I could go on but I really do hope people actually ask him questions we would like answers to.
NHL'er
Jim, how do you justify your choice of Tim Horton doughnuts when Dave Nonis was clearly a Krispy Kreme guy?
Tre Mac
Jim, how do you justify not having cel charger in each seat in the lower bowl? Jim, any plans on offering lint removers so our suits still look crisp upon leaving Rogers Library?
smithers joe
if that is where your head is at, it won't matter what he says because you in your gm's hat won't agree with him...why not just ask him why his plans and vision for this team, doesn't take into account what the fans visions and plans are?...ask him why he doesn't read cdc for all the right decisions? Kakanucks
Ask management why they don't consult with the masterminds on CDC regarding all aspects of the team before making trades/signings/firings/decisions. Clearly management is clueless and dumb.
JamesB
Ask management why they don't consult with the masterminds on CDC regarding all aspects of the team before making trades/signings/firings/decisions. Clearly management is clueless and dumb. Critics of Benning's moves do not necessarily think they are masterminds. I think that what a lot of critics want is a clear statement of the strategy. The plan -- "make the playoffs every year and rebuild a Cup contender" -- is not a meaningful strategy. It is pretty clear that the Canucks are not a Cup contender and are unlikely to make the playoffs this year. So what is the plan and how do recent moves fit into that. I also think giving Benning a hard time over the Sbisa signing is fair. Remember that he said at the time that Sbisa "had very few giveaways". That is an elementary mistake. Guys who rarely have the puck have very few giveaways. The NHL leaders in giveaways last year were Subban, Tavares, Burns, and Karlsson -- all outstanding players. I am not saying giveaways are good. I am saying it is important to know how to interpret numbers and I don't think Benning is a numbers guy. I agree that Benning seems to be a good judge of talent -- good at predicting a player's future performance by watching him play. But all GMs make mistakes and, when a mistake is made, a GM has to expect tough questions. I am still optimistic about the future, but it would nice to get more clarity from management about expectations and strategy for this year and next. Supra
a guy on hfboards is going to absolutely roast the whole management if he gets the mic. So expect some fun.
steviewonder20
"It is not pretty clear that the Canucks are not a Cup contender and are unlikely to make the playoffs this year." I think you have too many negatives in this sentence b/c as written it suggests that we might be a cup contender and few here believe that. Down by the River
a guy on hfboards is going to absolutely roast the whole management if he gets the mic. So expect some fun. I don't find it fun. More like someone who has nothing going on in their life and wants to feel like a big man by acting like he is smarter than people in powerful positions. These people are also real hypocrites. "Jim Benning never tells us what his specific plans are" + "Jim Benning doesn't have a clear vision". Honestly Canuck fans are some of the biggest losers. Be unhappy with the trades/decisions all you want, but any opinion you make is based on far less information than what Benning has available to him. one night
My only question would be, why where our UFA's not traded at trade deadline in lieu of just walking away for free.

Oh, I agree. it's the same reason i watch Jerry springer sometimes. The drama. being a GM is a lot harder and complicated than people think for sure, and he doesn't deserve a lot of the hate he gets, but seeing people try to roast them will be funny, to me at least, for sure. There, answered.

Sorry but its true. Just because the public (and rest of league) is unclear what the plan is doesnt mean our management is going in blind.

I would just like to say, management is not obligated to make everything clear for the fans. Just like at work, upper management may tell you their plan and where they would like to head to for the future, but they don't point out the exact details for their plans, and its not their fault if you don't see/understand the plan. BTW, not exactly directed to you, more in general to those that keep saying they don't see/understand 'the plan'. Edit: yea what the guy above me said.
