Odd.
Someone who I definitely wanted coming back in the Kesler trade. Love the player, he's going to do well under AV.

saucypass
Too bad we don't have something equivalent to Carl Hagelin that could've fetched us Etem. Dude has mad skills, didn't score much in the playoffs but he had this ONE goal that was insane...

saucypass
I would've preferred Carl Hagelin. You're right, I would too. I didn't think Etem would've been so expensive, but then again the NYR were up against the cap.

SaintPatrick33
Etem and the 23rd ovr for kesler would have been a good deal.
coryberg
Etem and the 23rd ovr for kesler would have been a good deal. yeah his 10 points would have been way better than boninos 39. I'm sure he would have lead the forwards in blocked shots and shut down the Thorntons, Kopitars and Getzlafs. When 3 of our dmen were hurt I'm sure he would have stepped up and played big minutes on the blue line.

I love Etem, but people need to stop whining about the return in the Kesler deal. Bones is a boss at a steal of a cap hit, McCann was a great late pick that has every bit as much potential as Kesler ever did, and Sbisa is a player that brings a skillset on the blueline that this team needs. His improvement was steady last year with increasingly challenging situational play, better decisions and consistent physicality. I look forward to seeing him with a different partner this season. As for Etem, I like his chances in AV's puck possession systems and with the types of young guys (ie Miller) that he'll be playing with. Stepan is a difficult piece to move, but I think this will turn out to be a pretty good hockey trade.
N7Nucks
Etem and the 23rd ovr for kesler would have been a good deal. We likely would've been in the McJesus running after that deal. Guess that's a positive?

Etem is a big body, 23 year old former first round pick who scored 61 goals with Medicine Hat, then had nearly a point per game in the AHL. He also has 6 playoff goals in limited ice time. We already know what Bones and Sbisa are, Etem still has potential and is young, which would fit into the rebuilding mode of this club. Say what you want about the difference Bones and Sbisa made, but did they make an impact in the playoffs? Nope.
