Take a run at Tavares in 2018 when he's a UFA

Recommended Posts

First of all Danny and Hank come off the books in 2018.

Most of Canucks top prospects are wingers. Virtanen, Boeser and Grenier as RWers with Baertschi and Shinkaruk as LWers. McCann and Cassels down the middle.

HUGE if but if the Islanders did the unthinkable and somehow let Tavares get away then the Canucks should throw every chip they have into the pot for his services.

Could we also resign the Twins at a reasonable 1 or 2 year deal so they could play 2nd/3rd line minutes until our kids supplant them? Say 1 year $3.5m each?

2018....

Baertschi. Tavares. Virtanen

Shinkaruk. Bo. Grenier

Danny. Hank. Boeser

Gaunce. McCann/Vey. Cassels

Defense a whole different topic.

I'd suspect by 2018 that Vrbata, Burrows, Higgins and Prust have moved on. I'd include Hamhuis and G Ryan Miller too.

This would be a final 1 year deal for the twins. Having Tavares and Bo would be as good a 1-2 punch in the league. At least very capable of going gead to head with any other top 2 C's.

I know this could be a pipe dream BUT I don't want Benning to give a big contract to a UFA winger. I want our UFA money going toward a #1 C and if that's unattainable then let's look for a stud Dman. I don't think we have either of them in our system or prospect pool yet.

Can we be patient until 2018? I for one hope so.

He won't make it to UFA.

Going to have to agree with this, he has a very good thing going with the Islanders and the team likely will be contending at that point if not sooner.

Also the Sedins, they may become secondary players, do you think they will be retired by 2018 ? I am not convinced this contract is it for them. But I wouldn't be surprised.
