Jiggs50
That's an overpayment. Wow. Love Kes but for a guy who's already 30, that's bad.
spliced
I think the Ducks have 1 more year as a top contender unless they have a breakout younger forward. Their top forwards being over 30 is an issue and their young guys getting paid will give them less ability to add. Hopefully some of their key guys have an off year to ruin their 2016 cup hopes. Kesler is a known quitter though so he may demand another trade if he doesn't get what he wants.
Mathew Barzal
Awesome, hope Anaheim takes it next year.
Coconuts
Oww, that contract. The money isn't too far off, though it's a tad high, but that term.. Ahh well, good for him. Always liked him here. If Anaheim wins a cup it doesn't matter. Here's hoping they do.
Robongo
hahaha that is such a brutal deal. Kesler will be 32 years old when that deal kicks in. With his style of play and the tough miles that he's accumulated , by year 3 that deal is gonna look absolutely awful. I guess if they win a cup they won't care, but damn. Heretic
Wow - good for him. Ducks sign Kesler to massive six-year extension Ryan Kesler. (John Woods/CP) EMILY SADLER JULY 15, 2015, 12:08 PM The Anaheim Ducks and Ryan Kesler have agreed to terms on a massive six-year extension worth a reported $41.25 million. Kesler, 30, was entering his contract year with a cap hit of $5 million in 2015-16, and was set to become a UFA upon the completion of his six-year, $30-million deal he signed in 2010. The new deal, which comes into effect in 2016-17, will carry a cap hit of $6.875 million through 2021-22. Kesler tallied 20 goals and 47 points in his first season with the Ducks after leaving the Vancouver Canucks, and played a big part in the team’s deep playoff run with seven goals and 13 points in 16 post-season games. The big centre has registered 202 goals and 440 points in 736 career games since being drafted by the Canucks in the first round (23rd overall) in 2003. jovocop55
Good for Kes. I don't we can mock other teams contracts when we pay Sbisa 3.6 agree.. doubt any team will sign him at 2 mil... and we gave him almost double just to make the kesler trade look better.. lol

PhillipBlunt
Kesler plays a game built on intensity. Can he block shots, hit, skate, dangle like he does now, when he's 36? The Sedin have played the same way since they were drafted. They use their brains and hands. They are not big, physical, or fast. They don't kill penalties. They don't play a game that can regress like Kesler's or Burrows' But their game also lacks the ability to amp up during the playoffs due to the lack of a physical element. messier's_elbow
And if his game declines considerably in the next 2-3 years? Sigh. I hope so. Cause that's when our team Should start to improve.
TOMapleLaughs
He was already making $5mil. Not sure why $6.75mil seems astronomical, given what he does. Maybe the term is a bit long, but not shockingly so. If this ends up being an albatross contract for them, they'll likely be rid of it in some way. Happens all the time for the priveledged teams. RonMexico
So what does this say about Benning's negotiating prowess? Absolutely nothing when you are given a list of 1 team to negotiate with.
R3aL
Deal must have been impacted by ROR But good deal for him a little high in my opinion and long term considering his style of play/ injury risk Anaheim though are serious serious cup contenders this upcoming season
Gurn
3 years at that money, maybe I'd sign him, 6 no way. They must be counting on the cap going up by $10-15 mill by year 5.
asian player
But their game also lack the ability to amp up during the playoffs due to the lack of a physical element. True, but I'm just saying they can sustain longer with their style of play.
-SN-
Imagine what people would be saying about Benning if he had spent 50 million extending Bieksa and Kesler into old age. Crazy contract.
LoudProudNuckFan
Well considering he was a steal at 5m per year during his time here, I'm not surprised he got a big raise. But for that long of a term, it's a bit risky. 5mil was not a steal, it was fair value
Honky Cat
If Perry and Getzlaf are making over $8M a year...Keslers contract does not look out of step at all...although the term seems pretty long..
PhillipBlunt
True, but I'm just saying they can sustain longer with their style of play. As TOML mentioned, part of that lack of a physical element is that other larger, stronger players are that much more likely to take advantage of it and pound them. You think Burrows or Vrbata are going to deter anyone from taking advantage of that?
