SID.IS.SID.ME.IS.ME
I wish Vey nothing but success. If he can really make a good show of his offseason training efforts and come to camp stronger and better conditioned, I'd love to see what he could do. He seems to have NHL-grade skill and hockey sense, but was lacking an NHL-grade body and compete level. If he somehow puts all that together, I could see him developing into a useful, everyday, middle-six forward who can drive offence while at least keeping his head above water defensively. If the 2015-16 version of Vey is a much stronger and better conditioned player, brings a high compete level, and plays a solid enough all-around game (in addition to the offensive ability he already had) to actually command a regular spot on the 2nd/3rd line (solely by virtue of his performance and contribution to the team--and with no freebie gifting of quality minutes he hasn't really earned), then it will truly be a great boon for the Canucks. This remains to be seen. Certainly the right things are being said. And hopefully talk isn't cheap and the results are proven on the ice. But it would be great if the upgrade we've been hoping for (at the fourth centre slot--after Henrik, Bonino, and Horvat) actually comes from an improved Linden Vey himself. I'd love to see this kid shake the reputation of being a liability on draws, in his own end, and along the boards and in the tough areas. Hopefully he comes in much stronger and hungrier, willing to work, and willing to do everything the coaches and trainers ask of him. I'd love nothing more that to see Vey become a solid NHL player. EDIT: Perhaps the answer is for Henrik and Daniel to just "adopt" Vey and take him back with them to Sweden for a few months at "the lab" in O-vik. Many of the areas where Vey needs to improve are the exact same weaknesses that the Sedins overcame years ago through intense summer workout sessions focused on key areas of improvement. Positive Canuck
Vey better walk the walk in 8 weeks when he shows up for camp,. if its the same soft doughboy he can head to Utica. Giving the coaches pet another season to do nothing should not even be an option for WD.
Baggins
hopefully this year Willie makes him prove himself before granting him powerplay time. He was very good on the pp in preseason. That's why he started the year on the pp. And he produced. The early production, and the fact he could play the point, is why he was given additional opportunities through the season. Mr.53
Bounce back season... Dude, you were a rookie. And honestly not that bad of one. 10 goals, 24 points and a -3+/- in 75 games. That's really not that bad. However I love the attitude. If Vey can play better defensively and work on his draws, I think his confidence will skyrocket allowing him to use his offensive prowess. The dude has got talent, he just needs to round it out more. I expect a pretty good season out of him.
cyoung
Vey is physically not strong enough, if he fixes that he can be a great nhl player but it was definitely hard to watch last year
CanadianRugby
Good job giving up a 2nd rounder for a guy that played his way out of the lineup.
Jägermeister
Good job giving up a 2nd rounder for a guy that played his way out of the lineup. Most 2nd rounders never even progress themselves enough to get the opportunity to play themselves out of the lineup.
CanadianRugby
Most 2nd rounders never even progress themselves enough to get the opportunity to play themselves out of the lineup. So Vey overachieved already? I guess he can retire. Why did we even bother getting a 3rd back for Lack. According to you it's a useless pick. cory40
Vey will be fine. He will get better every year for a while. Canucks really look good this year, Sbisa is fine and we won games with sbisa. Expect more of the same. And when other teams score expect us to have defensemen on the ice. It is a sport. When kesler undressed Shay Weber in the play-offs CDC would have ran Weber out of town. Sbisa is Phyisical and plays well. Making the play-offs this year will happen MARK MY WORDS.
cbdoubleu
Still think Vey has another gear with the puck that we only saw during the pre-season.
CanucksJay
Still think Vey has another gear with the puck that we only saw during the pre-season. I think like others stated, the most important thing for Vey is working on his strength. In the second half of the season, he was playing better defensively and the only thing lacking was strength to win puck battles. Once he does that, he will be a defensively reliable forward with the ability to chip in offensively. I love his attitude and think he's the type of character that will improve and be a solid NHLer. Angry Goose
The stronger and quicker Vey gets the better he will be. His hands and vision are already very good
apollo
Young guy that had a decent rookie season. I'm sure he'll come back extra strong. Vey will show huge improvements this season.
Erik Karlsson
He's going to surprise a lot of people next year... Getting stronger isn't that hard when you're working out with some of the best trainers/athletes in the world...
CRAZY_4_NAZZY
I like his honesty that he underestimated the role he would play and preparation needed for it. There is still more to him we haven't seen yet which I am excited to see next season.
insomniac604
I like Vey a lot. He has good potential. A lot of people didn't know him (and may not still) when he arrived. Saying he was spare parts. Untrue. After the MR buyout I bet LA would love to have this kid back. Now for the crap part..Sedin - Sedin - BurrBaertschi - Horvat - VrbataHiggins - Bonino - HansenPrust - Vey - DorsettKenins, VirtanenOur only spot for him is 4C. He's not that type of player. I'd love to have him on the wing with Bones but then 4C goes to...? It would also mean that Vey, Dorsett, Prust and 4C (Gaunce?) will be fighting for minutes. Kenins signed a one-way and Virtanen will have no chance of making the club. Doesn't make much sense.Basically not looking like Vey will have a big opportunity. Hope he can run with what he gets
GreyHatnDart
I like his honesty that he underestimated the role he would play and preparation needed for it. There is still more to him we haven't seen yet which I am excited to see next season. This. He was quite possibly the best player on the ice against that late season LA game and wasn't rewarded on the score sheet for it. If he can string together more games like that he'd be an excellent player for us and/or trade asset. Problem with Vey is I don't see him being good enough to crack a top 6, which with his skill set is the minutes he needs. However, if he can play a better, stronger defensive game and then be used as a PP specialist he'd be a great asset to have indeed.
Boudrias
I liked the way he handled the puck once he got it. He has a pretty decent release as well. A littlemore strength and he might turn a few heads.
