Vrbata or Burrows with Sutter?

I know he's a center but sutter could be a great fit with the twins? Fast skater that can forecheck and has a great shot.

No point in that. We have two good wingers that fit with the sedins - use em. Sutter gives us a steadying presence down the middle. I'd rather try Virtanen with the Sedins than Sutter

After watching his highlight reel, (because I honestly didn't watch any Penguins games last year besides the time they played the Canucks) I am certain he would snipe 30+ goals, he is perfect for the twins line. Exact fit. Wouldn't it be great if that's why we got him. Likely not the case but maybe on the PP!

Really? 3 games with a new team + playoffs and you call him a non-NHLer? He's no Sam Bennett - who was 18 last year in case anyone forgot - but seriously. Give him training camp to adjust before calling him a bust.

He may one day be a great player. He will have to work hard though. I wish him well he's got great hands! But I am almost certain he's in Utica next year. That's all I'm saying, I'm not condemning him at all, he's a young guy lots of skills lots of potential. Currently a great AHLer.

They have him a one way contract, think they are counting on him making the team. They may see something you don't?

Burrows all the way with the Sedin's. He's currently the best fit with them on our roster IMO. It is nice that Vrbata can slide in with them to throw a different look, but I like Burrows with them better. The Sedin's need a guy that knows where to be, has decent hands and is tenacious. Burrows fits the bill for all 3.

Assuming Baertschi comes out flying and fulfills his role as a playmaker, having Horvat or Sutter working hard and carrying the puck and scoring garbage goals, he should be able to use Vrbata as the trigger man for some beauty cross ice passes this year. Can't wait to see this line, and really hope Baertschi comes as advertised.

Super weird to hear how much you people think Baertschi is an NHLer.

Serious doubts on him making the team next year.

Do you honestly think they traded a 2nd for Baertschi to put him through waivers this fall? He'll be on the roster.

Sedin-sedin-burrows

Bear-Sutter-Vrbata

Higgy-Horvat-Hansen

Prust-Vey-Dor

PP

Sedin-sedin-Sutter

Bear-Horvat-Vrbata

I like this if Higgins is still here. I'd like to see him moved but I doubt that happens until TD. Kenins/Virtanen woukd take his spot in the lineup.

Sedin Sedin Vrbata

Baertschi Horvat Hansen

Prust Sutter Burrows

Higgins Vey Dorsett

These are the lines that would make the most sense to me.

Depth order:
Kenins
Grenier

Jones (he has received an NHL call-up every professional season thus far)

Jensen

Gaunce

Shinkaruk

Friesen

I think Kenins and Grenier will get a serious look as full-timers. Jones and Jensen will probably alternate as main call-ups. Gaunce and Shinkaruk might get a game or two. I think Friesen is a bit of a wild card, but he has played pretty well.

Sedins - Vrbata (Basically a necessity as I don't think Burrows can produce top line numbers anymore and with Kassian gone there's no one else worth trying with the Sedins)

Higgins - Sutter - Burrows (Should be one of the best defensive lines in the league. However I honestly think Burrows should be given a 4th line, defensive, pk specialist role at this point. Unless we acquire a young top six scorer we're stuck with him and Higgins in the top 9)

Bearcheese - Horvat - Hansen (This line may be able to put up more points than the "2nd". Could be a fast exciting line depending on Baertschi's and Horvat's developmentment. Basically yet again we have 2 third lines.)

Dorsett - Vey - Prust ( Vey is a wildcard this season. He could vastly improve and take a top six spot but for now we're stuck with this hodgepodge fourth line. If Kenins or Grenier can take Vey's spot that could be a very fun banger of a fourth line.)

Basically I think everyone who is expecting Burrows to put up close to 40 points again is crazy. It's quite obvious he's lost a step. I mean he'll be 35 part way through next season. I love the guy and want him to finish his career as a Canuck but it's time we replaced him in the top 9 and let him finish his NHL career where it started, as an excellent 4th line, defensive, pk, character guy.

While much has been made of Sutter being a better fit with the Canucks than Bonino due to Sutter's faceoff ability and being a right handed shot, there remains the issue that on the Canucks' 2nd line Vrbata remains as a sniper, while Sutter has never had a season where he's shown much as a playmaker. Since he entered the NHL in 2008-9 Sutter has never had as many as 20 assists in any regular season.

In 4 of the past 6 seasons Sutter has more goals than assists, once the same number of goals as assists and one season his assists exceeded his goals-by one. He also scored more goals than assists in his last junior season (though not in his previous two.)

On the face of it that doesn't seem the best choice of center to put with a team's leading goal scorer.

Whether Burrows or someone else plays on Sutter's RW, offensively Sutter and Vrbata don't seem a good fit to me. It is possible that Baertchi could be the line's playmaker, but otherwise imo it is more likely Vrbata plays with someone else.

This could be because he has never played with an elite sniper like Verby in his career...usually stuck with third line pluggers who wouldnt score even if he did feed them nice passes. I think we are in for a suprise if we leave him with verby and bear. At the very least you know he wont lose as many puck battles as bonino and has the speed to get in on the forecheck

Sedin Sedin Burrows (the classic. Accept no substitutes)

Baertschi Horvat Vrbata (good secondary attack. This may not have enough grit to be feasible but you could switch out vrbata for burrows or virtanen as needed)

Higgins Sutter Virtanen (good dump and chase gritty third line)

Vey Prust Dorsett (aka operation protect vey)

How about neither?

Brandon is a third line C. Burrows has already been slotted to play with the Sedins and Vrbata certainly won't drop to the third line.

HIggins - Sutter - Dorsett

Prust - Vey - Hansen

You could argue that Dorsett and Prust belong on the same line, or alternating on it, but they are both worthy of a full-time spot and it makes sense to distribute the punches.

Expect Kenins and Virtanen to fight it out with Hansen and Prust

I see one post with Cole Cassels' name on it. Seriously? Doesn't anybody believe he'll make the team? I'll go on record: if McDavid makes the Oilers, there is NO REASON Cassels can't make our team. (Other than straight up admission of bad budgeting). Cassels owned McDavid last season. Beyond that, these first round picks the Oilers keep getting are playing immediately. Granted, the team sucked partly because of that inexperience. However, now we're seeing teams give that shot to the kids. It seems like we're one of the teams storing our picks on a revolving farm team door. If Cassels & Virtannen are stuck in Utica while McDavid & Nurse play in Edmonton, I know I'd be frustrated as a fan. I simply don't see an effective P.R. push in Vancouver (marketing our youth). I've been away from BC for almost a decade. I can't help but notice the lack of passion for our youth! There is no buzz.

Prepare to be frustrated. Virtanen can't play in Utica and Cassels most likely will be.

Btw, class of 2014 only one first rounder (Ekblad) played the season. And only two others played more than 9 games.

From what I have read, Sutter is a clutch goal scorer in tight games, works hard, decent in the faceoff circle but not much of a setup centre which, to me, would seem that he would be a better fit on the 3rd line unless he is playing on the 2nd line with guys that can distribute the puck to him. It is up to the coach to set the lines so once training camp starts, we will all have a better idea where Brandon fits into the lineup.....lets see who he has chemistry with out there.

Both Baer and Vrbata are quite adept at passing/distributing the puck. All three can shoot it.
