Obama supposedly to kill Keystone XL in August, Anonymous leak suggests it's retaliation for Harper spying on US Gov

I don't know why Harper keep sucking up to the US in foreign affairs like joining the fight against ISIS, backing Ukraine, and backing Israel. Canada is getting nothing from the US in return. You would think the US would throw Canada a bone by backing the XL pipeline.

From what I read, Obama doesn't even like Harper yet Canada acts like the US's lapdog on foreign affairs.

Obama really screwed us on this one. How long have they been purposely dithering on Keystone? Everyone knew those prices weren't gonna last and he wrecked our chance to get all that oil to market before the market conditions changed. Obama bends over backwards to help out Iran and all the while he's giving Canada the finger, you wanna talk about your skewed priorities.

Once Obama is out of office, this will happen.

I'm on the fence because of the amount of jobs it would create...but worried about the environmental impact.

The problem is these are not long term sustainable jobs. Society needs to stop looking for the quick buck and look for industries and jobs that last. An example is Tesla Motors. It employs 12,000 people. And because its an emerging market those are long term jobs. Look at companies like Siemens. Over 362,000 employees, 168 years in business. These are the types of companies we need. Ones that provide jobs not just for the now. But for the long haul.

thousands of miles of pipelines and this one is bad... ok.  Trudeau is going to be a disaster because he has no experience and is quite frankly a pussy.

What does that even mean?

Are you implying that this is Trudeau's fault? Should he have taken the Trump approach and demanded the pipeline be built? What an ignorant thing to say.

The US was going to reject this long before Trudeau came in. If you wanna blame someone, blame Harper for his failed energy policy. When the rest of the world is shifting towards energy independence and green technology, Canada should have been doing the same.

Pretty much.

Most people that are against Trudeau say the same things. They say he's gonna "ruin the country".

Then you ask them how and they have no intelligent response. And as far as him being a "p*ssy", what does that have to do with anything? Did Bush make America better by being a bully or a tough guy? No, he pretty much alienated America from the rest of the world. That's such an old boys club mentality that doesn't work in today's world.

There would be some long term jobs created. Maintaining the pipeline itself, the daily movement and monitoring of everything. More people needed to refine the influx of oil going to the gulf. Maybe not as many as those companies you listed, but some on both sides of the border.

It would be nice one day to know we dont have to rely on OPEC for energy needs.

I do wonder if taking out resources from the earth could affect the planet, seems damn possible.

Ontario has put a lot of effort into Green energy with little to show for it but massive costs, maybe one day the technology will be there to transition smoothly, but for now it'd be an economic disaster.

It has to be done at a national level or it won't be effective.

It's gonna cost more initially, because like you said the technology currently isn't there. That's the failure of the Conservatives thinking they could ride the oil train forever though. They should have been dumping oil revenue into R&D for green technology research.

If we had done that we would be ahead of the game right now and be world leaders. There's a reason why Germany's economy is always so strong. It's because they're a country full of innovators. Wouldn't it be nice for Canada to lead the way in something again, instead of following behind the laggards of the world?

That's funny, China and Europe are going big on renewable energy and their economies seem to be doing just fine.
