Reports Patrick Kane is under police investigation.

These are tricky situations. On one hand I do believe that a person is innocent until proven guilty, however I also believe that it is important to support victims of sexual assault and rape for coming forward. Any negative attention this woman receives makes it harder for the next girl who is raped or assaulted by a high profile athlete or celebrity. It may seem contradictory but I say believe the victim and consider the accused innocent until proven guilty. The exact details of the case are likely far more complicated than the scenarios outlined by the folks in this thread.

While I do understand false accusations have occurred and sometimes the falsely accused have been punished. I believe that assuming that a high profile, wealthy athlete would not engage in this type of behaviour because he could have any number of girls for sexual partners is a dangerous falasy. Rape very rarely occurs because a person can not find a suitable sexual partner. It is more often the result of a need for power and control over a partner or an extreme sense of entitlement.

I find the behaviour repulsive and I believe that our over sexualized media and advertisement methods as well as the normalization of violent and misoganistic pornography and the availability of it to younger and younger audiences is creating these disturbed individuals.

There are a number of studies done and being done on the effects of pornography on developing brains and difficult to reverse damage it does.

Kane is one of those people I enjoy watching play but just seems like a douche in person. Guess we'll have to wait and see if these allegations are true. Until then I wish I had hair like his.

As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't really matter if they're douchebags. As long as they play clean/fair and don't engage in illegal activity off the ice, they're fine in my books.

Good post.

Rape is obviously a very delicate subject. Especially when alcohol and/or drugs come into the equation. Of course, it's an extremely horrible experience for victims in legitimate cases. But in situations where the victim is not in a state where they can give informed consent, potentially the "aggressor" may not be in a state to completely recognize it either. And that is just in a standard "boy meets girl in bar" situation. Then if you add in some possible financial motivations, the whole thing becomes a cloudy mess.

Regarding the bolded part, I 'say' something completely different: we don't know what happened, and probably never will. And we don't know either the accused or the supposed victim personally, so we don't really need to "support" or "condemn" anyone.

Nice to see that most of the people responding on here are fairly balanced in their opinions. Only a couple have attacked the woman for daring to not want to give it up to a young rich guy, but that more likely reflects the demographics of the responders and the unfortunate culture we live in.

There has been a lot of progress in really defining what informed consent is and how it degrades with alcohol and drugs. A story that starts in a bar and ends in rape allegations is going to be a horribly messy one with a lot of variables. Some US universities have done a great job of defining informed consent for their students and making affirmative confirmation of a desire for intercourse the standard. This means a woman does not have to say no for it to be rape, she may not be capable, she (or he for that matter) has to give informed consent.

This will be a mess for Mr. Kane as well as the victim and will likely drag on. Hopefully it isn't a money grab as some people above have assumed without any facts.

Universities are the shining of rational thought? I think not, quite the opposite in fact.

Universities have been nothing less than a cesspool of identity politics and feminist proselytizing propaganda.

The real discussion about rape and sexual assault allegations should be about personal responsibility and reasonable expectations in an intimate situation.

There seems to be this preconceived notion that women need to be the fulcrum on which consent needs to be given because it's the 'male' who wants the sex, so he needs to obtain obligatory permission from the woman before proceeding, when in reality most sexual encounters are the result of both parties desiring to do so. 'Consent' goes both ways, but we all know that there is a double standard as so many people also believe that men would never turn down sex or be forced to have sex against their will.

I think it's hilarious when fembots claim they are victims of rape culture when it's actually men who get no support when they are victimized sexually. You're honestly better off as a murderer than a rapist, nobody I know celebrates raping anyone.

I have advice for young men out there: think twice before you decide who to sleep with, and remember that all a former sexual partner has to do is open her mouth and say she was assaulted and your life will be instantly ruined by the social justice mob. If you are desperate to copulate, go to the Netherlands and hire a prostitute. Get a receipt to prove it was consensual. Much safer these days.

This is indeed a touchy subject (no pun intended). I dont condone rape by any means, but there's rape and then there's rape.

Personally, in this situation I'm not buying the allegation. Patrick Kane may have had sex with this woman or he may not have. There are so many variables to consider. For all we know she may have been raped in that timeframe by someone and decided to put the blame on Kane for the potential payout. Perhaps she and Kane did have sex and she ended up regretting it for whatever reason once it was over and called it rape. I've heard that story several times. Maybe Kane did legitimately rape this woman. Maybe they had consensual sex and the woman was seeing dollar signs the whole time. There are any number of things that could've happened, or perhaps nothing at all.

Regardless of how this shakes out however, Kane's reputation will be forever tarnished (rightly or wrongly) and this woman will either walk away with a handsome payday (rightly or wrongly) or she'll walk away with whatever she had in her pocket before the allegation (rightly or wrongly). To me it just seems as though Kane has way too much to lose and his supposed victim too much to gain and not enough to lose for this to be legitimate. Or I could be dead wrong. I just dont think it makes sense considering Kane could hire the most amazing prostitutes to satisfy whatever perverted fantasies he may or may not have with zero risk, or rape a nobody from upstate New York and face all of the potential consequences which are now just beginning.

Sorry if this post comes off as insensitive. I just hope whoever is truly wrong in this case faces some serious penalties.

Let the evidence be the deciding factor regarding Kane. As with any criminal charge, there needs to be a proper investigation.

Preconceived notions of what might have happened or how we view the alleged victim or perp carry no weight. Take the victim's statement, the perps statement, and that of any witnesses and compare against the evidence.

Whatever the case, I really hope the truth comes to light.

He already has a track record for being a garbage human being.

Lock him up then. Don't need to worry about the process. It's been established that he is 'garbage' so that's all the evidence we need, right?

Seriously, SMH

No true rape victim deserves such a terrible ordeal. And no high profile person deserves getting a false charge being brought against them. However, going to the bar and hooking up with a 'random' is certainly not minimizing the risk of being victimized.

If you choose to only look at some of the stupid things I've done in my life I also have a track record for being a garbage human being...yet I can say with 100% certainty that I have never and will never commit a sexual assault. I've certainly said some terrible things I didn't mean (some I did mean), broken some hearts and faces and committed some stupid low level crimes that left my Karma imbalanced in my younger years. I work everyday to be a better person than I was yesterday. I hope people don't judge me on my previous mistakes and I will give almost anyone the benefit of the doubt in the absence of facts and proof. I hope Kane did not do what he is being accused of, I also hope that if he is found to have done something bad that he is forced to atone for his actions.

Nonetheless, this is an investigation, hearsay and conjecture are not overly relevant.

It's not contradictory at all. I think the term you're looking for is "taking the allegations seriously".

One can easily take claims seriously and support potential victims without jumping to conclusions. It's the police's duty (to the victim, the accused, and the public) to due their due diligence and investigate thoroughly.

This is going to be very drawn out unless there are witnesses. Even if a rape kit was done, it's doubtful Kane was directed implicated by it or he would already be under arrest.

So first it's going to come down to whether a rape kit was done at all (which would put claims that these are false allegations to an end). If not, then proving a case without exceptional witness testimony is going to be very hard.

It's confirmed now, wow what a mistake Kaner made there goes the Hawks. Anahiem, Calgary, LA, Dallas, and maybe Minnesota looks to be new powerhouses in the West.

Now's the time the billionaire owner opens up his wallet to save Kane lol

It's confirmed they are investigating him. His guilt, innocence or any charges have not been determined.

yeah but rape cases are difficult to prove because women needs real proof, which will be difficult in the court of law. Remember Kobe's case, seems like a similar case. Sex with consent looks like what happened here unless the women real evidence. Me personally, I see it as a normal one night stand for a celeb which backfired, but who knows.

Rape is indeed hard to prove, but that doesn't mean he is guilty or innocent. It really is too bad, women get a seriously raw deal with sexual assault, and it should be no wonder why many rapes go unreported. On the flip side, any woman who claims rape after consensual sex is compounding the problem. My point? You really should be careful with your wording, nothing has really been confirmed.

If this gets as convoluted as the Kobe investigation then the truth will never really be known.
