coryberg
Great deal. He could have waited it out and got 8 mil over 7.
Canorth
Yeah these guys and kings and oilers will be fighting hard for the cup now for years cant beleave they got so little money for such a excelent dman. Benning is the biggest idiott in the league and watching this is sad *"idiot"
Pears
Jeez, I'd have given that to Gio in a heartbeat if that's all he wanted. Don't know how they're doing it in Calgary, but it's making me jelly.
Ryan Strome
Just wait till next year. Look at their contracts and tell me they aren't gonna. Be screwed. Doubt Kris Russell will be back. We should pick him up. Jones, Hudler and both goalies come of the books. That's a lot of cap. Not to mention Ortio looks promising.
Baer.
Jones, Hudler and both goalies come of the books. That's a lot of cap. Not to mention Ortio looks promising. Yeah, cause its not like they are going to resign Hudler for more than the $4M he's making. They also don't need goalies so they will have lots of cap! (Sarcasm) Read my other posts in this thread. Maniwaki Canuck
Looks like a tradeoff of longer term for a lower salary. He may no longer be worth the money half way through the deal and it would still favour the club. Both parties did well here but the club especially so. Jiggs50
As good as he is, you don't give a soon to be 32 year old that contract.
Jägermeister
Fantastic signing for the next few years, but not looking so great by the end of the term.
oldnews
Great deal for Calgary - hands down Norris imo - for under 7 million is a real statement from the captain - a Sedin-like team-centred deal on behalf of Giordano. I love this guy - one of my favorite players in the NHL. He's an absolute two way stud - undrafted - and practically peerless at this point. -AJ-
Sounds like a hometown discount to me. He could have easily gotten $7.5M+ on the open market.

A goalie, who looks very promising. They also have very good prospects to take Hudlers spot.
theminister
If he stays healthy then this will be a great contract.
Jiggs50
Oh wait so he's gonna be 33 next year when this kicks in. This is a terrible deal. Way too long

DeNiro
Giordano and Wideman will both be 32 next season, so the good thing is the Flames shouldn't have too many prime years left out of this current D-core. I would think they wanna trade Wideman in the next couple years in order to re-sign Russel.
Master Mind
Home town discount. He gave his team a better chance of winning during the years he'll be a top d-man. A lower cap hit than Phaneuf

They're in pretty damn good shape I'd say.

None of those guys are likely to put up 60 points a season though. Yes they'll still have a great D-core, but not as great without Gio and Wideman.
