Alflives
Yup, that was a brain fart (Been a long day.) But yeah, there's the Volt and evidently Tesla's going to have an electric ~$35k car in a couple years. Prius (or other hybrid's) are a step in the right direction though as well. Why do people still use gas mowers, or even electric for that matter? I use an old time push mower, and it works just fine. Plus, in Vancouver there is public transit. Some like to call the Loser Cruiser. I call it a twenty ton taxi. The point is there are much cheaper options than the Tesla, or the Hybrid cars. aGENT
Agreed. More people should use reel mowers, particularly on typically small urban/suburban lots. They're quiet, zero-polluting, minimum maintenance etc. Even better get rid of most/all your grass. It's entirely inefficient land use.

We ripped up our lawn and put in raised beds, garden beds and some paths. It's awesome. Free food, no mowing, attracts birds, butterflies etc. Lawn sucks. NucksCelts
These global warming activists are becoming so desperate. No one cares anymore, a lot of believers don't believe anymore. They keep claiming we need to change... What do we need to change? Give them more money. Do some research and shut up. One hot temperature somewhere is irrelevant when cold records are constantly being broken, and glaciers are getting bigger ect. No one should even care to debate this fear mongering tactic any longer

No one should even care to debate this fear mongering tactic any longer It's not just about temperatures, that's the most recycled garbage argument that gets used. And saying that no one cares is ridiculous. Millions of people care. Extreme temperatures at both ends is exactly what climate change is, do some research. I have some garden beds and a huge lawn. No way would I have a yard of vegetables. the plots of garden I have are way too much. I'm sick of tomatoes and some plants did not do well because I couldn't water all the time. I water my lawn twice a week and it's awesome actually only watered twice in last 3 weeks and now won't need to water until next April May. Sounds like you planted too many tomatoes or too much in general. Not the garden plots fault. Like I said, I also just planted general garden beds that basically take care of themselves. My beef with lawns isn't watering them, as you point out unless you just pave your backyard, you gotta water whatever it is. My beef is generally with the need to mow them all the time. Lawn is a pain in the ass. You spend time making sure it's this nice uniform thing, constantly fighting 'weeds' cause they make the lawn look bad, etc...Way too much bs for an unnatural thing. Just not for me.

I have a big yard and the lawn is the easiest to take care of. All my plants and trees I have some grapes too take a lot of time to prune and take care of. It's easy for someone in a city with virtually no yard to say get rid of it...I have a bit of everything and I like it alive and green. Last year I made a 150 foot berm about 7-10 feet high seeded it and planted 30 trees.

My first job was mowing lawns at 10....actually I might have delivered real estate weekly before that but anyway...I took pride in it...previous wheel tracks lined up perfectly with next track...empty the bag on the grass you are yet to cut.... Fast forward 29 years and I still enjoy firing up the mower, putting the headphones on and dialling in some perfect green lines. In fact two summers ago I built a soccer net in the back yard for the boy. I mowed a prefect goal box area complete with lowered grass level and cross weave pattern then a slightly raised perimeter around it. It's deadly. Come evening when my labour of love is complete I crack a cold one, walk around barefoot and survey the estate.
MadMonk
One hot temperature somewhere is irrelevant when cold records are constantly being broken Problem is that there are far more warm records than low records. The past year has been the warmest year on record, and over the past 365 days, globally there were 45,466 record highs vs 21,951 record lows (NOAA). If you look at the global average temperature record: 2015 is on track to be the warmest year. Recent record warm years were 2014, 2010, 2005, 1998. Now when's the last time the coldest record has been broken? 1909 glaciers are getting bigger Measurements from 37 reference glaciers, where long term observations are available:

When you take into consideration how little data we have on our planet's climate (less than 150 years) it may be entirely possible to see fluctuations in the planet's climate over a period of time. While the glacier data is represented as 'long term' data, it only goes back to 1980, which is within my lifetime, so I don't know if it really qualifies as 'long term'. Personally, I think it's foolish to think that human activity doesn't have a direct impact on the environment, but it's important to be skeptical of all data, because there are groups out there who will misrepresent information to further their agendas. Webster6
If this true, we are doomed. This will not change in our lifetimes or our childrens. Sure it will. It will just take a societal collapse which leads to a new age. It's gonna be a messy proccess but it's bound to happen, we've already gone well past the point of no return. I don't pretend to know when it will happen or exactly what might trigger a chain of events that will cause it, but in my lifetime I fully exect to see the collapse of the USD, and to see it replaced as the world reserve currency. I'd rather drive in a car by myself than in a bus that full of people that don't shower, play their music too load, and for the most part lack manners.
