Rogers arena is too quiet during canucks game

FACE it FANS in VANCOUVER don't have a CLUE about cheering. I said it once and I'll say it again. A friend that went with me to a game said: It is so dead in this building and nobody cheers. I told her that she was exactly like the dead beat fans in the building and unless she wanted to start cheering then she shouldn't criticize fans that are just like she is. Her final comment to me was: you are right.

So, don't criticize fans if you don't cheer. I cheer all the time and when fans tell me to be quiet I just make more noise. For those of you that never talk to players you should try asking them if they like fans that cheer. Trust me the answer to that question is yes!

I'm at the arena 90% of the games a year, and i find that we need to be louder , i would start up a go canucks go chant and it would die down in 15 seconds , i sat lower bowl for 1 game chanting that , and i had some person thinking i was crazy , we have to make this the toughest building to play in again , the players feed of us too, so the louder it is , the more pumped they will be

Cut the price of booze... problem solved.

Yeah the crowd is quiet, but think about who goes to games. People with money, and are people with money usually loud and boisterous? No, usually it's the poor rowdy folks who are loud and boisterous. The people you want to see and hear on tv are not the people you want to live next door to.

Let's just get used to it, because crying won't change anything, it's just the way we are around here. We are cerebral, we aren't loud american drunken idiots (for the most part), we just want to pay close attention because we payed thru the nose to get tickets.

I'm tired of complaints about our quiet crowd, get over it.

Er, didn't the riots happen in Vancouver with vast numbers of people committing all kids of mayhem on the streets while behaving like drunken anarchists?

Cheering fans doesn't necessarily equate to drunk idiots or bad neighbours.

Wealth does not mean better manners than others.

Americans are individuals and the ones I know aren't loud nor do they drink.

No one's crying..we're discussing, which is the entire point of this place.

Not an earth shattering topic by any means, but some of us cheer without alcohol or being bad people and we are not Americans.

So to this I'd say quit stereotyping and generalizing and allow others to share their opinions without it being deemed "crying". If you go to games it can actually be awkwardly and uncomfortably quiet at times...it's like being in a library rather than an arena.

I believe smart phones are helping to dumb us down as a whole as we no longer are engaged, involved or focused. That many are scrolling their lives away, taking selfies and forgetting to live in the moment. I notice it a lot, in many situations. Sad that the ability to communicate is being lost but many are only partially paying attention to what's going on around them.

That and the fact that people who are given and gifted tickets often aren't as invested...some have an attitude of entitlement and if we're not stealing the show out there, then they spend more time being critical of the team. (I've sat beside some). The average Joe who lives and breathes hockey/the team isn't always able to be at the games.

Well said Deb! Kelowna has a great Rockets team yet some games I've been too half of the so called fans are gathered upstairs near the beer sales. It's a social club for the upper class and business people. Certainly nothing like the old barn days where your ears we're ringing after any game. In saying that, I come to watch the players play and I don't much care if others are busy texting. It could be having a replay on the big screen shows those people all they care about.

I'm all for cheering and noise but cowbells and those hollow plastic tubes you beat together ought to be confiscated at the door. There's good loud noise and there's just plain irritating noise. Might as well bring a dentist drill to the game.

I don't think smartphones are the problem, if they were teams across the league would have quiet buildings. Its not just people from Vancouver bringing their phones to games.

Ticket prices are not the problem either or Montreal would be a dead silent building.

I find most people just want to keep to themselves. I'm that way, I don't go to a game to meet new people. I want to watch it and enjoy the game not spend the whole time making noise.

No, Montreal would never be a silent building, period. Hockey is engraved unto it's culture.

Ive already told my story on here before but i will again. A few years back me and my friend were sitting in the lower bowl..i feel thats important to mention because i have never ran into this problem in the upper deck. anyways.... we start a friendly mock of a coyote player i think. and again I do mean "friendly" as in not swearing or vulgar at all, but more the less taunting. No lying what so ever, a security personal comes up to us and says "hey, you would not like it if someone came into your work and started heckling you". I am not kidding here. me and my buddy thought she was kidding at first but again she stated she wasnt and would have us removed. I wanted to ask her if she was familiar with pro sporting events and that the home team usually cheers and boos the AWAY team. This incident was frusterating on so many levels. We felt we couldnt cheer and have fun without being very cautious of this security guard who clearly did not understand sports. I have also had a few people tell me to sit down or be quiet when cheering too loud during a play (not a goal) . I find the bottom level of rogers arena is just full of "suits" (corperate guys who have tickets for the fad) and it seems that rogers arena will cater to them and their enjoyment more than an actual fan who knows what "icing" is and not so much what time their underage secretary needs to be home.

Wow, just wow. The more money is put into sports, the more you will see these types of actions. I would have launched a formal complaint, paying that much money for tickets then not being able to cheer as you see fit? Imagine if they did this in a place like Philly or Boston what would happen? I feel bad that you had to experience that, if it was me I would have lost it. No wonder we no longer have home ice advantage, what a DISGRACE.

They can hire some young women to stand in the stairs and cheer lead. Like at the worlds.

Fans make noise when something happens, which shows they are following the game.

I like to watch the game when I go. In my years I have never once seen an attendant kick people out for too much noise.

You hear about it on this forum all the time. I have not seen it, I have attended over 300 home games.

Drunks yes! People swearing yes! People in fist fights with other fans....YES!

I was at a game in Edmonton and saw 2 guys being escorted out for having signs criticizing management

I've had the good fortune of watching games in lots of NHL buildings, and I will say this about Vancouver hockey fans -- they know their hockey and are sophisticated hockey fans, but by nature, most of such fans are not the loud/boisterous type. This is rooted in sitting in rinks watching and analyzing our kids play and practice 3-4 times a week. Couple this with a higher than average Asian fan base (and by nature, Asians are known to be reserved) compared to other hockey markets, and we have the makings of a relatively quiet arena.

Although I agree with the rest of your comments, I don't think having Asian fans has anything to do with it. Last time I checked Japanese fans cheer and participate alot more than Canucks fans do. And your statement would mean that there was a huge number of asians attending the game. I just don't see that when I go to the games.

Blame it on the arena for not encouraging cheering and support for the team. That is quite evident when the staff are keeping people from actively participating. That is on the ownership.

Stop living in the past. The product on the ice these days is boring to watch. Doesn't help when you have uptight security.

Boring? What an absolute joke you just made.

Canucks played as exciting as possible this year. You obviously didn't watch.

When we had Olympic gold medal matches at Canada hockey place and game 7 Stanley Cup finals, that's like having Gotham's and Hy's steaks. The last 4 years have been like waiting 1 hour for a Dairy Queen burger full of spit and food poisoning. Hard to get exciting after having the best. Toronto, Edmonton, etc can continue salivating over cold take out but for Canucks fans we can never go back.
