[Discussion] Why is Derek Roy still job-less?

Now I know there's a lot of crammed depth charts around the league and cap space issues, it's showing with the likes of wingers in Brad Boyes, Glencross, and Bergenheim still not signed or even offered a PTO yet. Also with Lapierre and Goc being forced to sign in Europe. But one player that surprised me is Derek Roy, was worth Connauton and a 2nd a few years back, now bounced between Vancouver, St. Louis, Nashville, and Edmonton in only two seasons. He was a great addition for Edmonton late in the season and still has that shifty playmaking and high compete level game. If he is forced to sign in Europe I'll be surprised, there's been enough wasted talent lately.

Just because he was traded for a 2nd and Connauton doesn't mean that he was worth a second and Connauton.

Well he obviously was, and to anyone complaining about giving up what we did, look at it this way. Vancouver was obviously right about being concerned about Connauton rounding out, because Dallas placed him on waivers not long after trading for him, now he's playing nicely with the Jackets. Took a trade and the waiver wire to whip him out of it, and the 2nd Dallas used to draft Philipe Desrosiers who is still a largely unproven goaltender. Roy proved last season with his play in Edmonton that he's worth what he was traded for a few seasons ago IMO.

It wasn't necessarily the trade and waiver wire, K-Conn just needed a little more time to develop and it is way too early to try to analyze the quality of late 2nd round draft picks from 2013, they are all still unproven at this point.

Well right now the trade very much so looks fine, point being, Dallas lost a piece of the return for Roy.

Classic case of a guy who has to play top 6 to have any meaningful value?

Makes you appreciate guys like Burrows. Well maybe not the contract? But a guy who bleeds for the team. Kills penalties. Scores all his points 5 on 5. Fore-checks like a fox on a rabbit in heat. Takes on Getzlaf, Tim Thomas, doesn't matter. And can steal first line minutes from all star Vrbata...
