-Vintage Canuck-
Jack Skille and Andrej Meszaros fall back on PTO deals with Avalanche: Forward Jack Skille and defenseman Andrej Meszaros skated in Avalanche equipment at the team’s Centennial headquarters Tuesday and are presumably preparing for Colorado’s upcoming training camp on professional tryout (PTO) contracts. Apparently, their PTO deals are a secret, because the Avs won’t comment on their training camp roster until it is announced. We expect the roster to come out Wednesday or Thursday. Skille, 28, and Meszaros, 29, have fallen on hard times, relatively speaking. Skille was the seventh overall draft pick in 2005 by Chicago and, although he never earned a $1 million salary in five contracts, he’s played in all eight NHL seasons since age 20. He has 30 goals in 239 career games and played the last two seasons for Columbus. Meszaros, who was the 23rd overall by Ottawa in 2004, was paid $4.125 million by Buffalo last season and earned $5.5 million the previous season to conclude a six-year, $24 million deal with the Sabres. I have not heard good things about Meszaros’ work ethic. Skille is 6-foot-1, 215 pounds and Meszaros goes 6-2, 225. Skille is from Madison, Wis., and played two NCAA seasons for the hometown Badgers. Meszaros is from Slovakia and played one year of major junior for the Vancouver Giants. http://blogs.denverpost.com/avs/2015/09/15/jack-skille-and-andrej-meszaros-fall-back-on-tryout-deals-with-avalanche/22027/

Guest
Meszaros is definitely NHL-calibre still.

He was terrible and was only given that bloated salary because the Sabres had to make it to the salary floor.

Hugor Hill
Goes from 5.5M to PTO. Talk about a 180.
Ilya Mikheyev
Would love to see Skille here on a minimum contract, and sent down to Utica. Guy is a point per gamer in the AHL and with O'Reilly and Conacher out, Skille could join Jones & Cracknell as this year's offensive vets. Everyone is desperate for a contract, so getting a 1-way would probably be pretty sweet for Skille at this point. He could handle a NHL role if anyone goes down long-term. Saying that with Cracknell, Jensen and Grenier already down the right-side, makes more sense to sign him after pre-season to see who cracks the Canucks top 13/14 forwards, if any of Cracknell, Jensen or Grenier do, then Skille would be a good fit. Shinkaruk - Jones - Skille would be a sweet first line, with Skille and Jones making up for Shink's lack of size.
MikeyBoy44
The new NHL, where you're either making 9mil or you're making 1mil.

coryberg
Goes from 5.5M to PTO. Talk about a 180. Actually he went from 5.5 to 4.15 and then to PTO. That's like cruising in the fast lane moving over to let others pass and then hitting a roadblock. A 180 would be paying the team 5.5 million
desiboynux4lifee*******
Skille was drafted in the 1st round and once Hawks found out he didn't have the factors they were looking for they traded him. Well, same thing they did with Clendenning and got a younger Forsling, who could turn out to be the real deal. In short, Bowman saw something in Forsling, which we passed on for Clendenning, who we traded after and didn't even give a fair chance. lol

Baer.
Mezaros was released, but Jack Skille has played well for the Avs so far. He has yet to be released, pending the final cuts.
