Tiny  gas 4cyl crap boxes are not efficient if you drive over 80km. They scream above 4k just to keep up just burning up the fuel as usual lol and the yuppie/hippies think they are saving the earth :bigblush:

Until the world wakes up and realizes we can power everything with water and photons we will be spinning our wheels so to speak.

Absolutely true....have been saying this to many people as unfortunately I've been required to run v8's for many years.

My 86 cobra gt @120km/h in 5th   idled at arounrd1800rpm would get almost 6 hundy to the tank o.O ?

My civic @120 idled at 4400 lol

Lmao.

yes I commuted in a Honda Fit on the sea to sky as well as the island highway.  Really, unless religiously obeyed the speed limit.......which to be honest I did for the most part on the sea to sky.  But in the island highway, the limit was 110 at the time and the vehicle didn't even really like that speed....120 would have given that feeling and sound of  stress almost....too noisy, vibrations,  etc

not to mention the significant difference in fuel economy...so realistically a 4cyl at open highway speed is not up to marketing.

Yeah there are great 4cyl that defy logic and of course the tech has come a long way but  you just cant move metal and glass with these tiny power plants without revving them out : (

Well I'm not sure if the euro vw diesel would be the same engine model as the North American one but to my knowledge: there are none of the other listed brands selling diesel engines in North America.

The VW diesel is largely the same motor.

The article is in regards to European emissions...

There's not that many small diesels available in North America.

Thats where the advancements in Turbo and Supercharging have really helped out.

Give you the displacement you need, only when you need it. Problem is, boost = pressure and heat. Engine killers.

lol to true.  my misses has a Honda fit, and I too can attest that anything over 100 begins to feel a tad sketchy,  but that just might have to do with the short wheelbase making it more of a twitchy vehicle.

Basically a recycled pop can on a red wagon chassis

Not sure WTF this line of discussion has to do with TDI's or the related emissions scandal...?

TDI's have plenty of torque which means lower revs to maintain 'over 80 kph' and far less shifting for hills etc. They get +/- 50MPG highway.

And FWIW, given the the vast variances in size of gas tanks from one vehicle to the next, km/'tank' is a completely useless 'measurement'

Not sure what you're talking about.

My 4cyl Golf, 5 speed manual goes to 3000rpm at 110km's gets 26-28mpg on the HWY. Not sure where you got 4000 rpm. Maybe if its a 4 speed?

I am talking about tiny crap boxes like kia's, smart cars, versa etc. I dont a consider a jetta a tiny crap box. It is a mid sized sedan. If it was a 4 speed the red line would be higher anyways.

It doesn't really since i was talking about tiny gas crap boxes.   There is no comparison for diesel to gas int terms of torque every one knows that.   My tank in the 5.0 was like 50 liters. So for a performance v8 that is pretty dam good.  Size of a gas tank means nothing in terms of how efficiently the fuel is used so i dont see your point ?
