RGMG 2.0 | SEASON 4 COMPLETE

Patrick Kane

Recommended Posts

Pretty disappointed to miss the playoffs yet again, especially because my team actually looks good on paper.

Since I decided to "tank", I had messed around with my defense pairings but my team's defense actually seemed to get better for some reason. I guess having Brodie on the 3rd pair wasn't a sustainable plan, because my defense just straight up collapsed in the last 6 games.

And it came at the worst time because my offense finally started to do well, with 20 goals in the 6 games.

It's a shame that my team has shown the ability to play great defense and great offense, but never at the same time.

Toronto Maple Leafs 2017 Season End Report

Our objective this season was to accomplish what the real life Maple Leafs are doing. Got a few 2nd rounders from players with expiring contracts and a top 5 pick. It looks like we succeeded. The team was really happy to obtain such an early pick while keeping such players as Dustin Byfuglien, Jonathan Toews, Victor Trana, and Nikolaj Ehlers in the lineup.

Our team heading into free agency looks like...

Ehlers - Toews - Trana

Hoffman - Draisaitl - Zucker

Colborne - Eriksson Ek - ???

??? - Boyle - Pageau

Rendulic

Byfuglien - Braun

??? - Ellis

Greene - Chelios

Michalek

???

Khudobin

We are going into the draft knowing that we will come out with a quality defenceman. The specialized development perk will most likely be used on him and hope that he will be able to step in right away. Eriksson Ek didn't have the most fruitful offensive year, but this season has been a good experience and a good year of development for him. A playmaker on his wing would be a great touch for the upcoming season. The team still lacks a starting goalie, but I'm sure there will be one available in free agency this year. The team knows that there are a lot of holes to fill, but we are confident that all of them will be fixed and that we will have a competitive roster before season's start.

Good luck to all competing in the playoffs. May the best team win.

Colorado Avalanche Awards:

MVP: Connor McDavid (27G/41A/68P)

After a slow start to the year/some chemistry building with newly acquired linemate Gabriel Landeksog - Connor exploded offensively and finished in the top 10 in league scoring for the second year in a row. He lead the team offensively with 27 Goals and 41 Assists (same amount of assists as last year). Connor is the centerpiece of this team, and will be for a long time.

Honourable Mentions: Pekka Rinne and Gabriel Landeskog.

Best Defenseman: Cam Fowler (11G/28A/39P)

This was a tough title to award as partner Chris Tanev had an extremely good year as well, and improved greatly over last year. However, with the consistency and leadership that Cam has shown, it was too much to overlook. Fowler finished with exactly the same amount of points as last year, however this time around put in 4 more goals! The Avs are extremely pleased with how having Cam on our team has panned out, and look forward to having him on our roster for years to come.

Honourable Mentions: Chris Tanev and Marc-Edouard Vlasic.

Unsung Hero: Chris Tanev (7G/26A/33P)

Playing together with Cam Fowler, Chris quietly put up points all year and ended up collecting a career best of 7 goals and 26 assists. As a cornerstone of the PK/PP/1st Pairing, Chris logged a lot of ice time. While Cam seems to receive most of the credit, none of it would be possible without Chris doing his part.

Honourable Mentions: Tommy Wingels and Andrej Meszaros.

Most Exciting Player: Mitch Marner (27G/28A/55P)

In just his second full year in the NHL, Mitch tied the team for most goals scored with Connor. While he may have great linemates in Connor and Gabriel, Mitch is every bit as important to this team. We look forward to seeing his face around these parts for many years as we near contract talks.

Honourable Mentions: Connor McDavid and Bryan Little.

Best Rookie: Thomas Chabot (4G/18A)

Thomas surprised a lot of people with a very solid year playing on the second line with Vlasic. The Avs are excited with his development and are looking forward to seeing him again next year!

Playoffs here we come!

Minnesota Wild Season End Report

Andrew Brunette Awared (Team MVP): Steven Stamkos

Pavol Demitra Award (Leading Scorer): Steven Stamkos

Brad Bombardir Award (Best Defenceman): Kevin Shattenkirk

Wes Walz Award (Unsung Hero): Justin Williams

Sergei Zholtok Award (GM's Favourite): Charlie Coyle

Great season for the Minnesota Wild as we finished at the top of the Western Conference, clinching our third straight playoff berth. Steven Stamkos continues to be the team's offensive leader, with Henrik Zetterberg and new addition Charlie Coyle supporting him. Offense from the blueline was excellent as usual, with the entire top 4 pacing for 40+ points, led by Kevin Shattenkirk. New backup Ilya Samsonov was impressive in his first season, and gives us long-term hope in net. Rookie Alex Tuch could've scored more, but the experience should be of great benefit to him.

We look to forward to facing Canuck Surfer's Dallas Stars in the first round, and are hoping for a cup run this year.

Charlie Coyle - Henrik Zetterberg [A] - Steven Stamkos [C]
Alexander Steen - David Krejci - Justin Williams

Nikolay Zherdev - Artem Anisimov - Alex Tuch

Matt Calvert - Mikael Backlund - Rocco Grimaldi

Melker Karlsson, Joakim Andersson

Niklas Kronwall [A] - Kevin Shattenkirk

Jake Muzzin - Cody Franson

Andrew MacDonald - Radomir Stoyanov

Nick Schultz

Mike Smith

Ilya Samsonov

Ovi versus Stamkos huh?

Dallas is proud to have made it back to the play off's. And our improvement has been driven with as many as 5 rookies in the line up. Including Michael Mercer, Evgeny Svechnikov. Young guys Kuznetsov, Pokka, Klefbom...The future looks bright.  Plus we have added some big bodied match up guys; Watson, Vermette, Orpik to compliment some nice vets.

And Ovechkin has simply been a frickin horse!

Stamkos & Minny will have their hands full!

Proud of my team to have made the playoffs, after maybe a slight scare here at the end. As usual with these type of sims, I am going into it expecting to lose. Anything more than a sweep is some great experience for us.

Hopefully Giroux and Perry can continue their wonderful ways and get past New Jersey, but it will be tough. Brent Burns has been a stud all season and one of the defensemen who Morgan Rielly was competing against for most points. Burns won that award and Rielly fell off a little but still remained my cornerstone piece.

I'm excited for this matchup. I'll be going into the playoffs with the roster and lines I currently have.

Montreal Canadiens Awards:

MVP: Morgan Rielly (16G/29A/45P)

Morgan started off the season strong, and was the top defenseman scoring-wise in RGMG for quite awhile. He took a huge step from last season and jumped straight into the #1 defenseman role in Montreal, excelling at it amazingly. He was easily the MVP this season, carrying the team on defense and the backbone of my team.

Honourable Mentions: Corey Perry and Claude Giroux.

Best Defenseman: Morgan Rielly (16G/29A/45P)

Just as said before, he played stellar this season. He took over the reigns as best defenseman this season, which was previously held by Kirill Koltsov last season.

Honourable Mentions: Kirill Koltsov and Dmitry Orlov.

Unsung Hero: Frans Nielsen (14G/23A/37P)

Nielsen was a part of the line that I put together for the first time this season with Tyler Ennis and Brock Nelson. Nielsen upped his game from last season and continued to play as a great secondary scoring piece throughout the season.

Honourable Mentions: Dmitry Orlov and Brock Nelson

Most Exciting Player: Mike Cammalleri (19G/22A/41P)

Like his whole career, Mike was a great goal scorer this season for the Canadiens. He played alongside Giroux and Perry on the top line throughout the whole season and did so very well. He scored 19 goals, which is actually one more than Perry did.

Honourable Mentions: Claude Giroux and Morgan Rielly.

Best Rookie: Anton Fertovs (8G/4A/12P)

I didn't expect a ton from Fertovs in a bottom six role, with most of the season played on the 4th. He racked up quite a bit of PIMs, but that's what I expected from this kid and he even brought some fine depth scoring to the team as well.
