MONTREAL - Montreal Canadiens forward Zack Kassian was treated for minor injuries in hospital Sunday morning after being involved in a traffic accident, a team spokesman said.

Reports said Kassian was not driving the vehicle, which crashed into a tree Sunday morning at about 6 a.m.

There were two women, one of them the driver, in the vehicle at the time.

The Canadiens, who played a pre-season game in Ottawa on Saturday night, were given Sunday off and resume practice on Monday.

Kassian, 24, was acquired in a trade with the Vancouver Canucks in the off-season

A 20-year old woman was driving the truck, which ran into a tree on Clanranald Ave. A 24-year-old man and 18-year-old woman were passengers in the vehicle, said Montreal police spokesperson Manuel Couture.

Speed did not appear to be a factor in the crash, which took place around 6 a.m., said Couture.

Kassian suffered “minor injuries,” said Canadiens’ VP Communications Donald Beauchamp and is “under the care of the Montreal Canadiens’ doctors.”

“(Kassian) was all bloodied up and stuff. He was in a daze,” said Steve Petrenko, a resident on the street where the accident took place. He described the man as a big guy, who he thought looked familiar.

“He had a hard time walking, and he almost took a fall,” Petrenko told the Montreal Gazette.

The witness says the man was brought into the lobby of his residential building. He was asked by paramedics if he knew where he was, to which he replied “Quebec,” said Petrenko.

When asked his name, Petrenko said the man responded “Zack Kassian.”

Could have been coming back from a party or just going for breakfast.

With two woman in his car, pretty sure it was the former, which is why we traded him. Hope he gets better soon though. I was involved in a major car accident myself earlier in the year. If he gets whiplash, he'll be out for awhile. Hopefully he's alright.

Perhaps try sparing the young man the judgement? Big deal - he was a passenger in a car accident. What guilt!

Who here didn't/doesn't like to hang out with young women when you were/are that age (or any age for that matter).

Day off. Of course he's going to be out chasing a life - he's hardwired to do so.

Hope the injuries aren't serious.

you've never gone for breakfast after a night of drinking?

It was like he was implying that he woke up early and innocently went for breakfast with 2 young girls.

The texts would look like this.

Zack - Hey girls wanna get a booster juice before we hit the yoga studio?

18 year old girl - "Sure Zack, but when you come and get us can my older sister drive your truck?

Zack - Absolutely.
