RWMc1
Isn't it illegal to push your views on others? I am so confused with today's society. It's okay to be gay but not say you are straight? Can't a guy cut his maids hand off when she is stealing? Let them caveman ruin their own lives, why do we need to get involved? Let's fix here first. Homelessness, uneducated, poor etc. Then we can worry about other people's problems. You obviously didn't even bother to read the post. She wasn't stealing, she was trying to flee the situation. Apathy is one of the main reasons so many horrible things continue to occur here and abroad!!!
thejazz97
Both the Koran and the Bible have relatively extensive regulations on slavery and both say it is okay. It was a normal part of society then. Slavery's been abolished, so not okay. Not in this day and age, anyway.

thejazz97
Not like the good old days anymore...shame right? Well, hey. If people own slaves, tell them to either free them or treat them right (which, pretty much a union). If the slaves come back on their own free will as servants, that's a different matter. And if people don't own slaves, even better.

Tortorella's Rant
Unions are the reason why 1200 Bangladeshi children are working their fingers to the bone in a three story building producing Joe Fresh clothing products for a head of cabbage at the end of the week

Just because things are done a certain way in the western world doesn't necessarily mean the rest of the world must conform. There would be no war in this world if people would just worry about themselves and their own countries problems. Slavery in Saudi has absolutely nothing to do with me and nothing to do with the average Saudi. They do some messed up stuff over there but that's just the way the roll. They have been living this way for centuries.

LaBamba
The same can be said about the people fixated on religious conquest, but again, the media has brainwashed you to believe that all Saudis are in conflict when in reality it's a very small % of the population. As a whole, counting the people I have met abroad and in Canada, they are far more passive than aggressive. No offence, but if you haven't been to the Middle East you are in absolutely no position to judge. The only thing you know is what is filtered to you by the media. We are being groomed to be afraid, threatened, hostile, towards their culture. "Don't visit the Middle East, you'll be decapitated" "They all hate westerners" "They live in a state of constant war" "Women are prisoners" "They are a barbaric society" The most dangerous place I have ever worked was Reynosa Mexico, along the U.S. Mexico boarder. Mexico is actually in a far worse state of conflict than the majority Middle East, yet people go there all the time without any hesitation. Why is that? Because the media isn't manipulating our view of Mexico.

taxi
Have you been to Saudi? Sorry not on the top of my list. If I was going to spend that kind of money to fly to the other side of the world, there are many other places I'd go first. I'm sure you had a great time in your expat compound. Regardless of whether they look the other way in some places, it's still illegal to be drunk in public there. I'm not going to a place where they can arbitrarily enforce those kinds of laws on me. Edit: To put this in perspective, I'm not saying that every Saudi person is a raving fanatic. But it is a very conservative country. Women cannot drive and must cover up. You have to be careful where you get drunk, etc... If I was going all the way to that part of the world, I'd rather go to more moderate places like Morocco or Jordan, Tel Aviv, or even Bahrain. Truth be told, I'd rather go to a place like Croatia, Turkey, or the Greek Islands.

I'd much rather go to Tel Aviv, Ahman, Casablanca/Tangiers, and even, if they quieted down a little, Egypt and Lebanon over Saudi Arabia. I have little interest in places like Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Qatar, etc.. from what I've been told these gulf states are very sterile and feature soulless shopping malls and skyscrapers. Jaimito
The problem is their culture and religion. When your religion calls for, among other abhorrent things, having slaves, beating slaves, holding slave girls as captives, being allowed to rape slave girls, sell female captives in markets, kill those who don't convert to your religion etc. etc. etc. then the problem is clear. The foundation for their culture is their religion and vise versa. The Arab world desperately needs a messiah. Just as Romans introduced Jesus to their subjects these tribes need someone similar to pacify their religion and culture. Of course this is highly unlikely if not impossible in the 21st century. The irony is these primitive tribes don't consider their domestic help as civilized human beings. Whilst the civilized world treats animals better than these sub species treat humans. Can't wait till they run out of oil and go back to being the beggars of the world they were less than a hundred years ago. Inferior culture doesn't mean they are sub species or subhuman. Deeply religious or fundamentalism is bad in any culture. When European were like that back in the Roman, Greek, middle ages and colonial days, they were quite a savage culture. They also held slaves, exploited other civilization, etc. The Christians killed tons of people all in name of their god.
