I doubt we trade everyone, if we're in a playoff spot.

Thats the problem. What is a safe bet this team is in the playoffs; let's say they are 7th place then I think management should finally be honest and make the moves that need to be made. 7TH place is a risky place to be come trade deadline, or even 6th. unless the Canucks are top 4 in the west then I see no reason to clean house. Otherwise clean the UFA's out and get young players please, because we know what this team can do in the playoffs. They have had four chances, it will be silly for management to keep guys like Vrbata, and Hamuis when they will have  somewhat of a market that can really help us in the long run.

Agreed with Vrbata getting traded and McCann sent down, but that's about it.

NO to Shinkaruk getting 1st line minutes (lacking fit in playing style and not sure why he gets the role for no reason), to trading that much just for one hotshot prospect in Pulock and to the 3rd and 5th trades (don't think Montreal would want Burr anyways, but if Gaunce does emerge as an NHL player then yeah we can move Hansen and Burr; also, Vey AND Jensen for that little is a joke).

We trade out 5 NHL players, plus 2 AHL'ers (so 7 contracts total), but only take one back. Add to that we send down a promising rookie who could benefit from that extra time available and don't call up enough players from the AHL to fill the 23-man roster back up? Maybe we move 2-3 of those players (along with maybe 1-2 prospects to make deals happen) but even with a bigger transition phase like you're suggesting we wouldn't go full fire sale.

I won't even comment on the validity of the suggested trades...

trade 1 -  ship vrbata out for a first (isles, wings, sens, sharks, habs)  any top contender can use a 30 goal scorer.  Send him to a bubble team instead, Jets, Wild, Dallas and hope for the best.  Bubble teams will overpay more often than perceived contenders and potentially give us a lottery chance.

trade 2 - hansen and hamhuis and first  for ryan pulock Sooooo.....Hammer Hansen AND a 1st for...Pulock?  Really? I won't even question this one further my man

trade 3 - burrows for a 3rd to habs retain 2.25 mill fir next yr Pointless.  Burrows will be a bottom 6 anchor most likely signing a deal worth about $2.3 million to extend him till he's 38.  He's the ONE guy I never want to lose

trade 4 - 4th rounder for weber  pens Won't argue this one at all.  But I'd shop him around because the Pens won't really need another point getting defensively floppish D man

trade 5  vey and jensen for coyotes 3rd rounder No point in this deal really,

My biggest question out of all of this is how on earth do you see us as a playoff team after shedding that?  No Burrows or Hansen means No PK worth speaking of and an even more dismal fore check.  No Hamhuis leaves us with a gaping hole in our already questionable top 4 .  Just not happening my man.  Not viable or feasible.

I don't think he does see us as a playoff team afterwards, but then again I didn't read everything so he might have said that in there somewhere.

everyones over values our players  hamhuis is horrible  and not a top four anymore  no offense gets nailed and loses battles in corners.  pulock is gonna be a great top four but he will cost alot

edler tanev

hutton pulock

is a pretty nice top 4  pulock evens out our righty/lefty  problem

sbisa bartoski is not a bad third pairing.

As for our forwards i really think shinkaruk and gaunce are a upgrade over hansen

mmm i thnk the youth  will outperform the vets just like their limited minutes prove that they dont hurt the team so far. Hutton and tanev have been our smoothest best dmen.

Virtanen gets a take away 2 hits and 2 shots in 5 mins playing time  if he got 16-18 mins hed have 7 hits 7 shots 3 take  aways

Shinkaruk is sniping it up in utica lets test how he does with sedins

Gaunce was our best rookie at training camp and preseason and only got sent down because he was waiver eligible versus  jaie and jared would have to play in chl.

I could be wrong and so many youngsters would hurt team and wed miss playoffs or im right at least it would be more entertaining and the kids could get  more experience.

I am personaly enjoying the injection of youth this season.. and because of them, and some "A"class tending from R. Miller, most of the lost games so far could just have easily been wins.

Perhaps this is more of a time to put the vets under the microscope,. And maybe rotate other prospects in from time to time.

Would hate to see a talented D man like Pedan go to waste with his fists doing more handling than his stick, which unfortunatley seemed to be the case last year.

Playoff talk is exciting, but patience can be a virtue.

Getting bubble teams to trade their 1st is not going to be easy. Not to mention the pick will always be lottery protected. Teams are clueing on to the fact that it is dangerous to trade 1st round picks unprotected. I doubt we will see unprotected picks traded often.
