Canucks and faceoffs

#Canucks lead #NHL in face-off percentage: 54.9%. Finished 29th last season 46.7%. Of players who've taken 50+ draws, Henrik is 4th (62.5%)

Pretty intresting statistics, what do you think changed these stats, why have they so drastically improved?

This shows that we are first in the league, almost 2 percent better then the second place islanders: http://www.nhl.com/stats/team?reportType=season&report=teamsummary&season=20152016&gameType=2&aggregate=0

These are the canucks players stats: http://www.nhl.com/stats/player?reportType=season&report=skatersummary&season=20152016&gameType=2&aggregate=0&teamId=23&pos=S

Only Cracknell and McCann under 54%

We don't even have one player in the top 40 in faceoffs taken: http://espn.go.com/nhl/statistics/player/_/stat/faceoffs/sort/totalFaceOffs

It's funny because I said that the Canucks would be one of the worst teams in faceoffs before last season began and got ridiculed hard on here.

It's a nice turnaround though for sure, but Hank will definitely come back down to Earth and be around 50-52%. We'll still be among the better teams though and be a huge improvement on last year, which is great.

While there are smaller sample sizes currently, last year we only had one person with more than 100 faceoffs taken who was over 50% (Horvat). Sure Bonino and Vey didn't do well, but neither did Matthias and Henrik was at only 45%. This year, our top 3 centers are above 50% (with Henrik at 62.5% as mentioned).

Looking for good signs within that? Henrik is at 73% in the offensive zone, and Cracknell and McCann are at 60% and 50% in the defensive zone. It's a mixed bag around when the score is close or we're ahead/behind.

There is a new Face off rule this season, The Defensive Zone Center must declare their stick first on the faceoff

which is an advantage to the Offensive Zone Center.

Last year it was visiting team that had to declare their stick first.

Also when Sutter was on the Sedin's wing he took the right side faceoffs which is Henrik's weaker side

Yeah its still early, but its better than having the 29th ranked FO& after 8 games lol. Why can't we just be happy about something instead of finding the negative in it? These forums...

We don't really want CDC to break out in chants of "plan the parade!" just yet, so we're settling for cautiously optimistic.

Did Linden pull a Shanahan and step onto the ice during a practice with his suit on and show the players how it's done?  No of course he didn't because he is not an idiot.  But he was a pretty good faceoff man in his playing days it was ironic seeing him in charge of a team so bad at faceoffs last year.  Good that the organization as a whole improved on faceoffs though, remember when they played San Jose in the playoffs and they kept icing the dam puck with the lead?  I never want to see that crap again.

"Plan the parade!, Plan the parade!, Plan the parade!"

...it's much more impressive in my office, Timberwolf is cringing.

Pretty overrated stat that doesn't really correlate nicely to wins or playoff success. Henrik has the 4th best faceoff percentage in the NHL, but has 4 points in 8 games.

It's great that we're winning possession most of the time but our enhanced STAT and shooting stats are pretty terrible, especially considering we're starting the play with possession the majority of the time.

You've got to gain possession in the offensive zone before you can get shots on net. The best way to do that is to win the draw.

Just because they haven't been turning them into chances, doesn't mean winning faceoffs isn't important.
