+/- : Sbisa 0, Horvat -6

Another CDCer depending on the much USELESS +/- Stat.

Let me break it down for you...

Sbisa has the puck skates up ice weak pass by his bench and gets off leaving the team to defend against another shoddy play by Sbisa...who is WELL WELL on the bench.

LOL

Even worse is to compare +/- between a foward and a defenceman!

So you're totally dismissing Horvat getting scored on a lot (enough to be a -6) and not really showing much offensive production because "dis stat is flawddddd"

So just so we're clear, getting scored on is okay as long as you understand "why" they got scored on.

Yes.

In other words, it happens. Since +/- is more of a team stat, if it wasn't Horvat's fault (someone else misses a check or makes a mistake) or it's due to him being put in the most defensive situations (resulting in more goals against even if the average hasn't changed) then it's far less concerning and maybe even not worth considering.

Everyone seems to be looking at Horvat through rose-coloured glasses this year. I'm a big Horvat fan, one of my favourite players, I have his jersey, and I believe he'll be the top line centre and next captain in a few years. BUT, he hasn't played well this year. I've barely noticed him. He's tied with Sbisa, Bartkowski, Hamhuis and Tanev in pts (2) - all D. In fact, Bartkowski and Hamhuis have played fewer games than Horvat. Not good enough. IMO, Horvat's lack of production isn't getting much awareness, because the focus has been on McCann, Hutton, Virtanen and Gaunce. Call it like it is, so far Horvat isn't producing like he should, regardless of his defensive responsibilities. Hope that changes soon.

This is how I feel

We all love Horvat and know that he will grow into an elite centerman in the NHL but there's no shame in calling him out on playing pretty $&!#ty this season and +/- aside all you have to do is watch the games to see this.

His offense is no where to be seen which would be fine for him normally because he's relied on as a great defensive player but he's been directly responsible for a lot of goals against this year. He needs to at least be better on the defensive side of the puck. Definite sophomore slump this year

Actual Shorthouse quote from last night: "Sbisa has his outlet pass intercepted, but is able to poke it to center while falling down."

It was the most Luca-esque moment possible. The man's an adventure. We should call him Indiana Sbisa.

Haha I remember thinking the same thing when he said that

He could be the "reason" "WE" are getting scored on but it seems as if you are pointing our losses directly at Horvat....in this sentence. Sbisa for all you know could be the reason for these unfortunate circumstances Horvat is in....but he sits at the bench after doing so....you don't know if this is the case, IT COULD BE....but hey that's the +/- for you.

Give some examples when Horvat was the root cause of a goal.

Not going to look through game highlights just to prove a point but the one I remember is when he left a wide open lane for McDavid to pass to Yakupov. He double teamed the guy going to the net and left a perfect passing lane for McDavid to lay it up for Yak to pound it home.

To early to call it that.  Bo has jumped from 4th line duties to 2nd line duties and is expected to take on +++ responsibilites.  He is also dealing with changing linemates and playing against the best players in the NHL.

Just like last year, he will adjust to the increased level of play and will be playing lights out by the new year.

Have some patience.

Sophomore slump so far this year then.  I firmly believe he'll be the Bo we saw in the playoffs by the end of the year but you gotta call a spade a spade right now.

Correction - Sbisa had his 2nd giveaway this season last night.

Now there's only 492 players with as many or more....

http://www.sportingcharts.com/nhl/stats/player-giveaways-statistic/2015/

That's an interesting chart.

Sbisa has fewest giveaways of the Canucks defensemen.

Hutton and Bart, 8 .... Tanev & Hamhuis, 7 ......  Edler, 6  and, finally, Weber with 4
