Hutton and McCann have got the 'time' thing down

*Buzzsaw*

I think these guys share the same gift... the ability to process the game faster than normal players, to see what is developing and react.

We haven't new players join the team with these skills since the Sedins.   (well maybe Tanev has it defensively) Yeah we have hard workers and guys with skill and speed like Horvat, but the ability to read the play faster than the players around you, to know exactly how much time is available to make the play is something different.

Gretzky had this ability in spades, he didn't have impressive physical skills, or special speed, but he could slow the game down, read the play and know exactly where to put his pass, exactly how long to hold onto the puck.

I think both Hutton and McCann have this knack too.  The play McCann made in scoring on Smith in Arizona is the perfect example.  Most players would have shot the puck immediately with the pressure coming on them from Chipchura being right next to him ready to get his stick in...  Instead he makes the sideways shift to the open ice... and then times his shot perfectly with Dahlbeck coming in from his right.  His timing had to be exactly right, but when you see the game faster than the opposition, that is a lot easier.

Hutton does the same thing in the defensive zone all the time... he knows exactly when to turn away from the opposition and when to make the pass.

Neither guy ever seems to be in a hurry to get the puck off their stick, neither ever seems to be panicking when it comes to making a decision.  You look at a guy like Weber... great speed, good hands, great shot, but he always seems to be either rushing his passes or holding onto the puck too long.  He's the opposite of Hutton... the way Weber sees the game, everything is moving too fast.

I am looking forward to seeing McCann develop into something special as a playmaker and goal scorer... and Hutton too as a quarterback.

Yes, they have a special je ne sais pas. Really looking forward to the next wave becoming the majority and mixed with some leadership vets. Just need more work on the back end with additional size and a big bomb. It's looking like the Nucks will be a force for years to come.

They both look a step ahead of the play whereas most young guys are a step behind. For example, Vey and Baertschi were constantly chasing the play, never really had the puck or controlled the game (Baertschi did at times) which is why they got sent down. McCann's hockey IQ is pretty phenomenal and his offensive awareness is one of the best on this team's which is why he's always sneaking into the soft-spot, away from defenders and scoring big clutch goals against big teams and Vezina-nominated goaltenders. That shot is probably the best of the team's as well. Hopefully he can keep it up and score consistently over the course of the season - that's every rookies' biggest issue.

When did Baertschi get sent down? He's on a one way contract isn't he?

I think you mean "je ne sais quoi".
