tl:dr - Guy has a helicopter land on a soccer field before some kids where about to play, game was forced to be cancelled.  Owner of the devils, he was watching them beat our canucks:(

He later apologized for the incident and offered the kids tickets to a upcoming game.  Doesn't the TSB or whatever agency that controls the skies have to give him clearance to land or can people park their choppers wherever?

You can land your helicopter wherever you want, with permission from whoever is responsible for the land, and as long as landing your helicopter there doesn't endanger persons or property.  It isn't controlled in the same manner that landing at a major airport would be.  Air traffic control isn't gonna keep track of whether you got permission or not and then say you can't land. There may not even be any air traffic control at all where they landed

So, it looks like this isn't really the owner's fault.  It looks like dispatch at the helicopter company is to blame.  They have an agreement where they can use the field as a helipad for people like Harris, but they have to check in first.  Looks like the company forgot to ask whether there was a game happening. Not the owner's fault, as the customer he pays the company with the expectation that they properly follow all procedures.

if a flying machine needs to land, does the pilot get a lot of choice where?  Don't helicopters fall like rocks if not working right?
