Markstrom kinda like Lou. Amazing 1 game and the most fragile goalie the next.

We just gotta tough some years out till Demko arrives!

Markstrom is nothing like Lou. Lou has been a starter in the NHL since he was 23....Markstrom is 25 and has very little NHL experience (~60 games total). Markstrom hasn't even cemented himself as a dependable backup at this point.

In the regular season, Roberto was consistent every season here in Vancouver. He NEVER had less than 30 wins in a full 82 game season. Markstrom has less than 20 NHL wins in his entire career up to this point

Plus Luongo was a successful goalie on a bad Florida team at a young age...something Markstrom couldn't accomplish.

At their current trajectories, I would say Lou will end up in the HOF, while Markstrom will be lucky to stay in the NHL for any extended period of time, as he has not shown the consistency at the NHL level to 'carry the torch' as it were.

Markstrom does however have much more AHL experience than Luongo....although I don't think you can spin that as a positive.

Also, there's no guarantee on Demko. The Canucks need to fix their crappy defense, find some young studs to help Tanev and Hutton, and maybe allow the 'goalie of the future' to ease in and succeed.

I think Markstrom's problem is mental.

How can you be that good in the AHL and be so mediocre in the NHL. What's more, he looks great against the Kings and extremely $&!#ty against the Bruins. Lack of focus? Intimidation?

The AHL is full of pluggers. Anyone with any hands or scoring touch is up with the big club, even moreso this year because goals are at a premium.

Hahaha!  This is one of the most ignorant comments I've ever read here ... I can only laugh.

This.

And I would add that Luongo is the all-time winningest goalie still active in the NHL, #11 on the all-time list.  His lifetime save % is .919.  And his current save % is still an amazing .928 .... good for 3rd in the NHL among goalies who have played more than a dozen games.  No comparison at all with Miller at .910 and Markstrom at .904.

Yep, imagine if Luongo wasn't so 'fragile'.

Obviously I saw a lot of Markstrom in Utica last year (season ticket holder and went to a few road games as well).  When Markstrom is off his game he usually does not get it back that same game.  If he lets a bad goal or two in early you can pretty much count on the fact that he is not going to have a good night.  He had his share of bad games even in the Comets playoff run to the Calder Cup finals.  But he had the uncanny ability to bounce back the next game with a great effort and would be unbeatable at times.  His bounce back rate was tremendous.

In Utica he knew the net was his and if he had a bad game he wasn't going to watch from the bench for the next 5 or 6 games. Markstrom has a starters mentality and thrives on a lot of work.  It is very difficult to be a number 2 goalie and not playing a lot and I'm not sure that Markstrom is well suited for that role.

Don't get me wrong and think he had a lot of bad games in Utica but he did have enough of them to see a trend.  Watching the game last night I could tell he was in for a bad game.  He wasn't staying big in the net and dropping his shoulders too much.  Something he can and will correct the next time he is in the net.

So basically like playoff Lu?   That's not encouraging for Divestrom.

While Markstrom didn't have a good game last night, it wasn't entirely fault. What can he do if our team can't even score?

True any one can balme the goalie or the D but what exactly did the forwards do to even or put a little fear into the opposition. Their own down low coverage is Pee Wee level and the goalie suffers the end result I'm hoping they had night mares about their collective lack of resonse and hnaging the goalie out to dry

If he can't even start for Caroline, well..... how could he help us?  With his winning personality?  And yes, do check his stats.

Landon Ferraro had 0 pts for Detroit and 4 in six for the Bruins, do check the stats
