bobbyg43
what makes it palatable for me is that we have young rookies on team with skill speed an very high potential upside ,so can live with mistakes a growing pains here.God it would be totally wn watchable if no rooks made the sqaud. The scoring woes in my mind I believed we would struggle here an we have although a poster reminded me last week we were like second or something in scoring league wise ,I aem sure another 10 games it will be closer to the truth of real out put averages for the team down in bottom 6 -10 there.D I had been always concerned about our D make up for the last two or three years but coaching staff had been able to shore it up an play an effective system an get by with the unit I attributed to coaching an players all in system but now it has imploded ,so not sure what they will do here there are alot of glaring holes on D an no reall solution or even patches evident.Hopefully team can get them back on board an stabalize them somewhat.Special teams has been really sliding into free fall an this is somewhat of a surprise even though pp struggled at times last year it did not seem to cost games as it has this year, you can count on at least five games we lost because we could not convert to tie or take a lead.maybe nine new players is too much for WD to grab an manage them nightly he seems to have his hands full with a few of the new guys an he can't really bench them all during a game.I thought we would be around 8-9-3 out of the gate so are on track injurys have played a factor an now know the importance that the three that are out of the line up have on the team make up we really lack ansuck without them in the line up no patches thus far have worked to shore team depth up so far.Hopefully the holiday season will be kind to us this year an yield much needed points. Noseforthenet
This team was never quite good enough to compete. I hope they do, but wouldn't be surprised to see them on the outside looking in come playoffs time. It is what it is. A transition year! Let's look for 20 goals for McCann, 10-15 for Virtanen, Horvat developing more, and Shinkaruk and Gaunce making the team and pushing out a vet or two. Dr. Crossbar
What I've actually learned from the Canucks is that they usually have a slump in mid-late November and then beat the living hell out of everybody around Christmas time. Something about Christmas brings out the beast in our team.Luongo was even better than Santa Claus for a few years in a row.Over the last 5-6 seasons, December has mainly been a great month for us. Not worried yet. Don't think we've played our best hockey yet. Need to get a few wins against good teams to get our confidence back and get on a roll. samurai
People have to realise that we are a middle of the pack team now and will continue to be for years to come.
VenitoHammer
It's a mixed bag for me this year. I wan't to see our vets and team struggle and fail, but continue to see our young guys grow and improve. I really like our team in a few years if we can flounder into a top 5 pick in the upcoming draft, imagine our pool of kids now and throw into the mix a possible Chychrun, another beast on the wing in a Puljujärvi or Laine... or getting really lucky and winning the Matthews lottery. I dunno, I just wish the Sedin's would say they wan't one last crack at the cup and let us get something for them in there contract year to go as rentals to a contender, Sadly I think they are just happy enough floating here and making comments like "I think we played good enough to win" after another terrible loss. EmilyM
Will Willie be given the opportunity to forfill that contract or will change happen if the team falls apart? This team has all the pieces its just not syncing. We have all the pieces? We have an aging goalie and an inexperienced backup. We have an average defense group. Our core forwards are in their mid-30s and surrounded by rookies with a scary lack of players in their mid-20s/prime.Looking at where we are in the standings, we are higher than where we probably should be. luckylager
Well, I'd sure as hell rather finish 30th than 17th. But if you're around 17th, there's always a good chance of ending up 16th and then technically the sky is the limit. I remember when the Canucks were terrible year after year after year. It was easy to accept because they played hard but still got destroyed. Easy to cheer for their effort and then good draft picks at the end of the year. Of course, we've hardly ever converted a top draft pick into anything. Linden and the Sedins, and I guess maybe Nedved and Tallon. Probably forgetting some, but that's not much to show for 45 years of mostly failure.Losing sucks. You have to be a huge stinking mess to finish 30. No thanksThey aren't playing hard enough to make their losing acceptable. They haven't really had an easy start, and unfortunately for you, they'll play better soon and by the end of the year we'll be picking 17-24, and pick some failure like McCann..premature I guess.. Kesler then.

NuckleheadFan
I figured this year, the Canucks was going to be fighting to get to post season so I'm not disappointed in the standing. The team was suppose to compete every night and work hard. There are some individuals who are doing this, but as a team, we haven't been consistent and played hard each night. That's the trend that I'm most concerned about.

I've watched them miss it by a spot or two, and I've watched them finish 2nd last in the league.Looking back on those seasons as a fan, they are practically indistinguishable. The Canucks finished 2nd last in 1989-90 when they got Nedved, and I had no problem cheering them no and enjoying the entire season. They lost almost every night it seemed, but they played hard just like the crappy Canucks with heart of the previous two decades. The only years I couldn't enjoy anything were the Messier years, and that was become the team had turned itself into a bunch of villains in its hometown, and I had to watch the captain coast leisurely around the ice hoping a loose puck came his way. I agree, just winning a game in the late 80's was something to behold, and the Canucks lack of success was easier to take because we hadn't really been spoiled for the previous decade...What seems like a consistent lack of effort from our vets is far more aggrivating to watch than a bunch of kids and half wits playing with heart.
