Maybe making mistakes on these waiver d, and losing them, contributes to a team only getting 65 points?

Last year I think we were last place in defensive scoring.  Larsen and Stecher will boost those numbers while Guddy, Tram and Pedan won't so there isn't room for all three.  That being said, I hope no one claims him.

Benning just may have played this very well. Pedan was placed on waivers the same day the Islanders waived Scott Mayfield a 23 year old 6'4" defenseman who is probably a little more developed than Pedan at this point. Mayfield likely has a higher probability of being claimed than Pedan.

Him, and Barberio cleared just before, who had 10 points in 30 games with the Canadiens last year. There are some defencemen being sent down who could be claimed, but it depends on who teams already have for if they can fit in a Pedan (or Mayfield or Barberio).

We might be overselling who would clear between Pedan and Biega, but we'll see what works and how things end up.

Gudbranson might be in competition with Tryamkin a little bit (since Tryamkin can play his off side) but not so much with Pedan. Larsen and Stecher are more redundant in that regard with Tanev being touted for a PP spot and Edler and Hutton already earmarked as well, and Guddy being paired with Hutton 5 on 5 being a natural second option for 5 on 4.

Has a single player that was placed on waivers been claimed yet this year?  People overreact when a Canuck player is waived.  Literally close to 200 players will be waived before training camp ends and who wants to guess the total number that gets claimed?  I'll put the over/under at 3.

It was a good risk to waive Pedan, way too risky to have Sbisa play enough NHL games to be eligble for the expansion draft. That would mean Benning would have been forced to trade for the sake of having someone eligible. Also, if Sbisa stays healthy & Beiga plays his 19 games, Benning has a lot more trade options later down the year, when most of the teams will be trading to prepare for the expansion draft, so they could scrap in rather than lose their players for nothing from being exposed.

I wonder if having 2 dmen that meet the requirements for a 40 or 70 games played season/ 2 seasons is going to be a valuable commodity before the expansion draft? If a team is missing one, and would need to expose a pretty good man they could trade for Biega or Sbisa because they meet the requirements. That would be some pretty good forethought from JB. Easy way to add value to a player they would have trouble trading otherwise.

A team that didn't plan ahead will be forced to over pay for a throwaway asset.

I've been patiently waiting for you to chime in on Pedan

I'm waiting to see if Pedan can make a step forward this year.  Above average skater for a big man with a good stick and a hard shot but decision making is holding him back.  Not unlike many prospects in the AHL for that matter.  Time for Andrey to bring his play up a notch.  Being waiver eligible along wasn't enough to get him to the next level.

I suspect Pedan is chomping at the bit to get back,.  He will get far better ice time with TG in Utica than he would with WD in Vancouver at this point.  I beleive he doesn't have to clear waivers on the next return trip.  This all helps to clear his mind.

Im looking forward to this fearless gunner with a 104mph slap shot returning to the Canucks at the right time this year.

Hats off to TG, Utica, and the Canucks organization for having the patience to give Andrey the chance to develop, where the Islanders failed.

Patience will prove to be the virtue here.
