Where do I implant my chip?

Just simply place it in the chip holder. To get to the chip holder, you just have to open the panel on the left and sequentially move it over to the right. Then you have to turn the key to activate the lock so that the chip holder is viewable. Once viewable, you have to turn it counterclockwise 275 degrees exactly. Any more or less will result in failture. Once you're done that, move your hand through the little crevis that's viewable until you can feel the chip holder then snap it into place!

Faster, or more efficient, or cheaper to produce.  Innovation comes in many forms, and spawns further innovation.

What exactly is the "problem"?

The article says nothing about it being cheaper or more efficient or anything like that, just faster. While it's certainly nifty technology, I just don't think it's necessary to have the internet deliver faster advertising to me. Isn't that what the internet is now anyways? A giant electronic billboard?

I'm not against innovation at all but in my life, I don't need the internet to be faster and I don't think a faster internet will enrich my life all that much.

Yikes.

Imagine the information age when speeds are at 3GB per second.  And this will be soon.  In the coming decades one could absorb all the information ever recorded in human history in minutes.  But we're going to blow it all on super-realistic virtual porn or something.

Imagine, but this technology won't bring that unfortunately.  Even if you have your entire house outfitted with Li-fi, the internet is still getting to your house through wires which are going to be subject to the same bandwidth limitations that they are already.

Now if Shaw/Telus had a giant Li-fi lightbulb sitting on their roof that every house in the city had a line of sight on...

Home networks running entirely on Li-fi on the other hand could transmit data almost instantly between devices, now that would be cool.

The article didn't mention it, but when you can transfer more data faster, it will lead to future savings, either in physical costs or opportunity costs.  However, that comment was more of a generalization of innovation.

I expect most of us here have streamed tv shows via internet at some point.  So, as one example, this technology would improve streaming performance in the home.  Taken further, I'm sure someone could use this technology for something like improved virtual reality workstations, like in the Minority Report movie.  Maybe this would improve the ability of doctors working remotely to support people on site when someone is hurt, such as a specialist surgeon talking a paramedic through some new life-saving procedure and the surgeon can see the patient in great detail.  Maybe this exists already, but something like Li-Fi might make them better, and would therefore be improved efficiency.

These are just a couple examples of software making the most out of available hardware.  If you limit the perspective to what you can do/want to do with your computer, and your happiness of what it provides today, I agree with you.  My PC is probably over 5 yrs old, and I have no interest in upgrading until I absolutely have to, as it suits my current usage levels.  New tech makes no difference until you upgrade, so there's nothing to worry about.  At least until the tech you are using becomes too outdated.

Lmao...omg I'm so doomed definitely resulting in failure here.

Simply?  Really?  :P

Just like this new forum.... that takes me 4x longer to come up with a reply as I try to delete a quote I didn't want to quote!

I have given up a few times after having several quotes in my reply that I couldn't figure out how to remove them on my phone lol.

Yeah, I really want the old forum back. :( The only good thing to come from this new one so far is the notifications in my opinion. Other than that, everything else seems sub-par.

The speed of data transfer on your Wifi or lifi or whatever can be as fast as you want it to be but you still won't get anything faster than you can pull it over your Internet connection with your ISP. This tech won't change any of that so it really would only affect things like file transfers from computer to computer in your home ect. Basically it won't do anything for your Internet speeds at all.

This is why it's important to advance Canada's ISP competition imho.

ISP competition won't really do much in most parts of Canada except for drive prices lower. The insane cost of infrastructure for such a small population is going to make really big improvements in speeds fairly unlikely anytime too soon.

Competition also drives quality higher, so i'd expect more rapid positive changes.

Except in this case most of the smaller ISP's just lease / resell from the big 3 and the big three are not really competing. It's also not profitable for a big business to come and put in the needed infrastructure for higher speeds. With such a low population density here, the costs would be astronomically higher than they are now, and the only people willing to pay those costs already do for special business Internet packages from the isp's.
