Warhippy
Former STP front man. Former Velvet Revolver front man. Massive drug issues but formerly one hell of a musician Saw him live with STP and Velvet Revolver twice. Great shows. Too bad. The Wildabouts had decent sound. One of my favorite tracks from velvet Revolver https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFbuEfyXyOI&feature=player_detailpage
Tre Mac
RIP, he and Travis Meeks are my two favorite singers and i love singing to their music. Meeks also auditioned for Velvet Revolver and he too struggled with addiction. He is by far my favorite musician.
GLASSJAW
Did he fall off someone's coat tails and bump his head? Kidding.. (too soon?) I loved all the singles off Purple and Tiny Music. As a kid, I thought Weiland was a cool-as-hell dude, with his aloofness and feminine mannerisms and gaunt look.
Honky Cat
Great voice...Am I surprised he passed away?...It shouldn't really be a surprise, there are lots of videos of him live,..completely incoherent...RIP.
PhillipBlunt
Down by Stone Temple Pilots. Scott in his truest, world beating form. Rest in peace, Scott Weiland. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KO4gvhtlQP4 Tried to imbed the video but obviously failed.

I guess I had Core on cassette (!) when it came out. Not sure how it would hold up to listen to now. Not much of it has stuck with me - the songs I still hear these days like Plush bore me. I like the opening and closing tracks though, Dead & Bloated and Where the River Goes. Creep is a pretty cool blues tune. All I remember from the second album was a weird hypnotic acoustic chant called Pretty Penny, and Interstate Love Song which I hear regularly and always sounds like it was intentionally crafted for karaoke. uh, RIP ... what a terrible eulogy oh! and the song STP had on The Crow soundtrack - that was a nice big epic track
D.B Cooper
I'm blown away he lasted this long. He was a junky when I was younger and MuchMusic still just played music videos. Sad day.

My post was far more cynical before I felt bad about offending the grunge-lovers of CDC I have a very difficult time holding on to the music I loved as a young-young kid. Even Nirvana I find boring as hell 350 days of the year (the other days I totally love them). Not because I think they're bad. I think they're great! I just have a difficult time listening to the same songs I've heard 50,000 times before and having an emotional reaction to them. Interstate Love Song is one of those songs. I think it's a good-ass rock tune, but I never need to hear it again, and I doubt I'll have the desire to, either STP has not aged well IMO. I tried to listen to their music again about a year ago after I heard an interview with Weiland (he sounded dishonest and slightly delusional, to the point where it made me want to re-visit his work out of morbid curiosity), but I just feel like Creed and all those "lame" bands in the post-post-grunge area, with those crunchy power chords and that throat-y vocal style passed down from Pearl Jam and co., have sealed STP's fate as just being a typical 90s band in an ugly lineage of derivative-ness (is that a word?). They're buried in a small coffin with, like, Bush X or whatever.

If all you ever listened to of them was Core and Purple maybe you would be closer to correct. Yeah on their first couple albums Weiland went with a vocal style that was easy to call a Pearl Jam type vocal but on Tiny Music and after he broadened his range a lot with a more higher pitch 60s style rock sound. Guy had a great voice. Too bad he couldnt stay sober for more than 5 minutes at a time.

Coconuts
It sucks that he's gone, he was a hell of a talent once upon a time. He had a lot of demons, fought a lot of battles and struggled on and off with substances. Apparently he died in his sleep? Either way, in a sad way I'm not surprised he's gone. Doesn't make it any less disappointing though. I loved his work with STP and Velvet Revolver. STP truly is dead now, I know Scott wasn't up to snuff but Chester just isn't STP. I like him and all, but he's just not. R.I.P Scott Weiland.

-DLC-
May he RIP....wish he'd won the battle but not many do not and it's tragic. Just makes me appreciate my brother all over again (clean and sober going on a decade) and how difficult it is to right the ship once drugs factor in. Good people are lost and leave families in their wake. The 90's will always be the absolute favourite decade of music for me and his voice was a huge part of that. Truly sad. Ghostsof1915
I didn't know he was bi-polar, which probably explains his urge to self-medicate. He had a helluva voice. Very sad news. May he find peace at last.
