Lancaster
He was a former 1st rounder and able to perform in the KHL, so obviously he got some talent. Horvat currently isn't quite there as a #2 centre, and while Cracknell has done well in his role, the Canucks should pick up Tikhonov and put him as #2. It's quite a promotion from waiver wire to top-6.... but it's not like Vancouver have any better options short of giving up Horvat or McCann as a package for another centreman. Monty
Vancouver should, and will, pass on him. He was given a fair shot on the Blackhawks top line for a few games with Toews, and still couldn't perform. He looked lost every time he was on the ice. He's done. I would much rather have Horvat as the #2 C than Tikhonov. Tikhonov is not that good. He was projected to be potentially a top six forward at the draft but he never translated his success in junior to the NHL and while in Phoenix/Arizona, was played as a bottom six forward and that's who he's known to be. Good defensively, not much offence to his game, doesn't really use his size to his advantage as often as he should and not really that big of a body. We don't need any more bottom six forwards, especially when Tikhonov will not be helping us with our scoring woes and will be a waste of a roster spot and contract. Pass. Provost
I am rarely for picking players up on waivers... but after the past few weeks, I am fine to grab anyone who comes by and sit out some of our guys instead.

The guy has only played in two games this season where his ice time topped 12 minutes and never as high as 13. He played parts of three games with Hoss and Toews out of his 11, that's not really much of a picture. This is what CSN Chicago, Toews and Hossa said about those 3 games: Quote The Blackhawks’ top line seems to be finding a little bit more of a rhythm lately, thanks to the trio remaining in the same. Tikhonov has added size and strength to a line that already had its share with Toews and Hossa. The three have generated some scoring opportunities and possession, two things that were absent through some earlier games. “He’s a big body and plays well in the offensive zone,” Toews said. “We just want to keep plays alive and have the puck a little longer and eventually things will open up. In the first number of games there, we were just one and done. We’d have maybe one chance, have the puck for 10 seconds, try to make one play, it was a turnover and we’d spend the shift in our zone. He’s a smart player; he has his head up and knows where to go. Three big bodies out there should be able to keep the pucks and eventually some things will develop offensively.” Hossa said Tikhonov has shown his dependability. “I think he’s the type of guy, you can rely on him coming back. He’s a good back checker,” Hossa said. “Also, he’s strong on the puck and can make some plays. The combination, we can benefit from that.” Not arguing that Tikh is a surefire NHLer, but he has tools and hasn't really been shown much of an opportunity in Chicago. I don't even necessarily think it's a great decision to claim him, but to say he got a fair shot is akin to saying AV gave Shirokov a fair shot. Canucks score 0 goals again tonight. Have 34 shots in their last 7 periods combined. If any team is willing to try something desperate to get going it would be the Canucks.

Off_The_Schneid!
If he's a centre pick him up and send McCann to the world juniors. give McCann an opportunity to get some confidence and give Tikhonov a try out

I realize you started that post with "if", but still, simply being a center does not make a player a better option than what this team has. Just pick up any center that winds up on waivers? Tikhonov is a RW - isn't a center - hasn't won a draw in the NHL. Should they have taken him to replace the injured Virtanen? Or Baertschi? Is he better than those young guys? Perhaps under the circumstances they could have moved Burrows to LW on the third line, assigned Baertschi to Utica for a "conditioning stint" and given Tikhonov a look at 3 or 4 RW... You can play Horvat as center on the 2nd line all you like, But as of right now, he is NOT a 2nd line center, Horvat and Virtannen are both being rushed,
