Fateless
Unsure if troll thread or not - I'll proceed as if its a valid thread to avoid being labelled a cruel monster. It has nothing to do with Fukashima. Nothing. Correlation =/= Causation. Thyroid problems are frequently genetic which would explain why both you and your brother have similar issues. Thyroid issues will change with diet and if you increased a carbo load or were eating high levels of fish (and therefore high levels of mercury), all those things can contribute to thyroid issues. I'm not a Doctor, but my family has a history of thyroid issues as well.

Either way, thyroid problems are not uncommon, particular with obesity levels in North America. Fish also isn't going to have a huge impact by itself, its more the problem of drastically changing your diet that will cause thyroid problems. Go to the Doctor and explain how you're feeling and what impact the medication is having on you. Going to a Doctor is a lot like playing darts, sometimes it takes a few attempts before they're actually hitting the bullseye. Doctors can't keep you properly medicated if you don't report any problems, and they certainly can't help if you decide to self-medicate or just stop medicating altogether. WHL rocks
Wow, Japan tsunami eh? Wonder if most Japanese people have thyroid disease now? And maybe most people living close to Japan like people in the Koreas, China, Philipines all have thyroid disease. Nah, I think you're just paranoid about the tsunami thing. One of my relatives had it years ago, he's never tried sushi in his life and he had it way before the tsunami. Took a pill for a while and never heard him talk about it again. Radiation is absolutely everywhere now your computer, mobile phone etc all emit it and sleeping in a room with a computer or your phone close to your head is not recommended. Also IF you sleep with like a chain or necklace you want to remove that because your body is more susceptible to absorbing radiation when you sleep and radiation is attracted to medals like silver and gold. Just making some changes like that can make you feel a lot better. If you think its nonsense read the small print on like your iphone or laptop etc and you'll see how they tell you keep it minimum 2ft away from your head. But there is very little (if any) scientific evidence proving any connection between Fukashima and radiation impact on Canada. If Canucktravella had said he was living in Japan, I'd see there being a connection, but he doesn't.
Mainly Mattias
You need to monitor how the thyroid is with the medication - the doc just makes a best guess when prescribing (ie. you should go in for testing regularly after a prescription change). It's a very tweaky thing. I needed to cut back on my dosage too in order to feel optimal.
