When he clears the Oilers will have 13.55 million dollars of wasted salary that aren't playing for them (nikitin at 4.5, Fayne at 3.5, ference at 3.25 and scrivens at 2.3)

Should be renamed as the Edmonton Toxic Tar Sands. Team's like their province, lots of wasteful, overpriced emissions.

Fayne adapts to his linemates. So if he gets a crap pairing he becomes the same pos.

The contract isn't great but for a couple of years might not be unbearable.

Could we use him? Maybe.

Weber and Bartkowski need to sit. But do Hutton and Biega have what it takes?

We don't have the cap space anyway but one can dream.

Early-season struggles aside, Fayne a big, RH, defensive defenseman, with strong underlying numbers. He's also only 28, and has played less career games than Luca Sbisa. And 2.5 years left at 3.625 is a bit high, but not Andy-MacDonald ridiculous.

If Hamhuis did break his upper, then we're going to need someone. I wouldn't be opposed to claiming Fayne.

Fayne has cleared waivers

To me, that may mean he can now be traded much more easily.  Edmonton would have liked someone to take the whole contract off their hands via waiver, but now they may have to eat a little salary to get him off the books.

Lots of teams need defencemen, and Fayne at $2.5 million if Edmonton retains some salary is a darn good value option.  It is especially attractive since he is already waived and can be buried in the minors as depth insurance for a team who wants to make a run.  With Edmonton retaining salary, that only hits you for about a $1.5 million cap hit while he is in the minors.

For us it could be an option, though less attractive because of the term left.  If he was a UFA at year end it would certainly be a good fit for us.
