hatedkid666
Last time the penguins fired their coach mid season blah blah. This has been an overrated team for a while, time for them to change things out and ship out malkin
Fanuck
With that team salary and overall talent level there are expectations. It's the old cliche, why get rid of multiple overpriced players when it's a lot easier to sack one scapegoat.
Derp...
We should hire Mike as an assistant after they change the CBA

24K PureCool
Why Sullivan? They are just going to fire his sorry ass come 2016. Should have just kept Johnston till 2016 and hire whoever they want then.

oldnews
Johnston actually had that sorry excuse for a hockey team playing some defense. Imagine that. The Pens and defense - like oil and water. God forbid. I hope they crash and burn. Johnston was one of the few redeemable things about that team. oldnews
They should have traded Johnston to Columbus for Torture-fella. Re-unite him and Sullivan. Let Torts have a go with Kessel. Now that would be entertaining.

Warhippy
Like I said in another thread. Since 2013 the Pens have traded something like 7 or 8 prospects and if I recall another 7 or 8 picks between the 1st and 5th rounds. They have no depth and little to no futures. Their best bet now is to simply accept the inevitable and trade either Crosby or Malkin because Kessel isn't going anywhere and having something like 40 million in payroll between 4 or 5 players in Crosby Fleury Malkin Letang and Kessel isn't winning you squat but mediocrity
RWMc1
I think that the way Sid no longer the Kid was performing in that system may have had something to do with this move.

Hurricanes owner ripped Rutherford after Rutherford traded for Kessel and said it would blow up like Semin and his 35 million dollars contract (http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/carolina-hurricanes-owner-peter-karmanos-rips-pittsburgh-penguins-gm-jim-rutherford/). Rutherford was never that great of a manager. Hurricanes had that one monster season in 2005-06 but other than that, they never had a 100 point season in all those years that he was their GM. Totally agree. I have often shaken my head at how they seriously thought Rutherford would be better than Shero. Shero was guilty of trading to win now and guilty of some ugly contracts but Rutherford...well...look no further than the last decade in Carolina barring 2005/2006
Winter Soldier
People will say "tanking works because Crosby and Malkin won!" The Penguins continue to prove that incompetent management will deny even generational players a serious chance to compete year in and year out.
