Back what? Almost 20 years ago? His last two stints in the NHL with LA and Dallas were nothing short of terrible.

Still a better option than Mike Sullivan who was fired after being the Head Coach of the Bruins (for less than 2 years I believe) and has been an assistance (that couldnt even last with the team) ever since

My point is  Marc is successful in the Swiss League, and he's even coaching Auston Matthews. It seems ZSC Lions has given him his mojo back.

The Canucks should make Johnston an offer - right now.

Imo he'd make one hell of an assistant - and I don't know, but I imagine he and WD would work extremely well together.

I can get behind this. They'd have to wait til the new year though, for the compensation picks to disappear.

Course him and Willie are buddies, so maybe they meet up for drinks over Christmas, whoops Willie left his briefcase behind....

I really like the guy - his track record with young players is unreal - as is his eye for talent, and his knowledge of running a franchise from top to bottom.

Probably drove him nuts working with dimwits in Pittsburgh - and to top it off, they don't have a great deal of youth to look forward to working with.

The idea that he was 'too defensive' though is fairly amusing - no doubt he expected frown up hockey out of his NHL players, but anyone who thinks he doesn't know how to get production out of a lineup is not very familiar with the Portland Winterhawks.

What about bringing Green up, to replace Gulutzen? Could send him a message that lets him know we have him in our future plans.

Once the rebuild is over, promote him to HC.

You know you could send that message in an email and not have to put GG out of a job for no reason.

What's patently obvious isn't usually surprising.

You'd think that "Mathew Barzal" would have a clue who Johnston is, but you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

Johnston's Portland teams won more than 50 games a season - scored 1000 goals his last three years there - they didn't accomplish that with a neutral zone trap or by defending the 0-0 tie lol.

Johnston's not a "defensive coach".  He simply knows that winning hockey comes from solid two way hockey - better defensive hockey leads to more possession, less time without the puck - which leads to more scoring.   Simple, but apparently difficult for some people to understand.

I suppose that's a hard sell when you're talking to geniuses that think Phil Kessel is going to turn your team into a Stanley Cup Contender lol.

Btw, that's a nice leather vest, but like the 1980's hockey your brain is stuck in, it's so 30 years ago.

With the parity the way it is in the nhl, youd think having two of the top five best players in the league plus a decent #1 d and a top ten goalie (at least a stanley cup winner) they could pull it togetger regardless of the coach/management. A big part of the blame should fall on Crosby.
