Should We Relax and Lower Our Expectations?

Just checked the standings and we're tied for 3rd in the Pacific and 1 point out of 2nd. The Sharks won tonight but they'll probably go on a losing streak starting with their next game, Mike Smith is gone for a couple of months so the Coyotes are in trouble, the Oilers look like they're going to go on a losing streak (lost to the Rangers tonight), the Flames are due for a losing streak (been lucky to squeak out a win their last 2 games), the Ducks are just as bad as us. We suck but everyone else in the Pacific, except the Kings, does too. I'm thinking if we continue to play the way we have been playing we could still make the playoffs. So, if we don't win every game but maybe once in a while mixed in with an OT loss here and there we'll be okay and have a great chance of making the playoffs. I think if we lower our expectations it would be more enjoyable to watch them play and we'd still get to see them make the playoffs. Look at the NFC East in football the top 3 teams are 6-7, the top 2 teams in the AFC South are 6-7, most likely the top teams in those 2 divisions will end up at .500 or under .500. A crappy record doesn't always mean we won't make the playoffs. Heck, the Lions made the CFL playoffs with a record of 7-11!

nobody can be surprised this team is awful.

Benning has enough time to address the teams softness issue, he's failed there but overall i like what he drafting ,

the D....... its just a joke.

I'm ready for a pile of vets to get moved and a TOP 3 draft pick.

sit back and have a laugh and don't take the Ls too seriously , we need to draft a franchise player.

Yayyyyyyy for fans who like mediocrity. I for one am loving this season because it's given fans and management alike a reality check that this team is junk and needs an overhaul from top down. I just never understood the whole retool while remain competitive stuff.

I dont really understand the OP's train of thought regarding the Oilers..?...How does he deduce that the Oilers are going to go on a losing streak after losing to the Rangers tonight..?...They beat the Bruins last night in Boston, and have only lost one game (tonight against the Rangers) in the whole month of December.......The Oilers do not sound like a team that's trending down.

Writing was on the wall this off season, even Daniel (maybe Hank) called it a transition year (or something like that).

I did expect us to be 3rd in the div come playoff time, but I also though the injury gods would be on our side for once considering all the dinks on TSN/CBC had us living in the basement... Can't let those shmoes be right dammit.

Nighty night ladies and gents, I need a fat ass j.

Lower my expectations?

What do you mean? Our draft selection gets higher each week!!!

Thats how i've felt all season. Other than the Sedins we have been just tragic. Even with the Sedins as good as they are we have missed our window to win with them. I just cant see this mess getting fixed before their departure.

Even if we make the playoffs. What chance do we have at winning the cup?

Normally I'm all "Just get in and we'll see what happens" because it sucks not seeing your team in the playoffs. It really sucks. Looking long term however, the draft picks could be invaluable. You have to look long term at the future.

Why should we lower our expectations? We are ONE OT loss from being a playoff team.

We're also 1 point up on Buffalo.. Playoff spots aren't really my concern, already seen this team get embarrassed in the first round enough to rather see a top pick
