DefCon1
I wonder how Benning could attract Stamkos this off season to eventually replace the Sedins once they retire in a couple of seasons. This is the Canucks chance to rebuild on the fly while adding depth through the draft. I think the Canucks could very well afford Stamkos once they get rid of Higgins, Miller and Hamhuis. Then we would draft Chychurun if we get a top 5 pick and allow Pedan or Subban to crack the lineup.
qwijibo
How are they getting rid of Higgin and Miller? I love when people assume you can just "get rid" if a player without thinking about the logistics of that. It's possible they can trade Miller. But very unlikely they can do it without retaining significant salary. Or taking significant salary back in return. But to your question. Sure. Vancouver COULD try to land Stamkos in free agency (assuming he makes it that far). I'd say it's extremely unlikely he'd actually sign here though. There are a lot of much more attractive franchises out there right now than the Canucks in free fall

Fateless
Stamkos will want to go to a contender. The Canucks are literally the furthest thing away from that right now. I see no reason for Stammer to sign with us - no matter how much we wish he would.
BettyWhites44
Stammer isn't leaving TB. They'll dump Matt Carle or Braydon Coburn(UFA) + Brian Boyle at the trade deadline to free up space. Plus the Cap will go up 3.1 million so they'll have enough to resign him after the season ends.
Jaku
Stamkos isn't leaving Tampa, even if he were to I would highly doubt that Benning could even attract the attention of Stammer. No way he's ever suiting up as a Canuck.
Mackcanuck
We may have up to $17M in UFA's and Higgins coming off the cap at the end of this season Vrbata -$5M Prust - $2.5M Crack - $.575M Bart. - $1.750 M Hammer - $4.5M Move Higgins if you can at 1 year left at $2.5M I don't think Stammer is coming at all, but we can have some money to spend
two drink minimum
Its nice to dream but there's no way Stamkos signs with Van. He either goes back to Tampa, signs with TO or another big US hockey market. The Rangers would be my bet.

WHL rocks
Wherever he goes it will be an overpayment. Most likely he'll sign in TO. I'd pass because it will mess up your cap for 7 years.

billabong
If he wanted to be in tb he would have signed by now. He either wants to go home to Toronto or Montreal
SaintPatrick33
We couldnt even get Shane Doan back when we were contenders, hometown boy and even wined and dined him. I guess we could keep dreaming and speculate since its the most exciting thing to do during the rebuild.

There are a lot of much more attractive franchises out there right now than the Canucks in free fall you can retain half their salaries so 1.25 off higgins 3 off miller both have a yr remaining and lots of teams need good pker and a starting goalie ( dallas, sharks, flames, oilers, ducks) not that miller would waive ntc to go to oilers but never say never cap goes up 3.0 miller traded frees 3.0 cap higgins traded frees 1.25 or waived frees 1.0 vrbata traded or not resigned frees 5.0 hamhuis 4.5 weber 1.5 prust 2.25 20 mill in space opens up burrows could be traded or bought out or last resort waived that could be another 2 mill freed up so yes id be ok with stammer being signs 8 yr 11 mill per for his prime yrs leaves 9 mill to restructure d maybe sign burns or shattenkirk without trading dorsett or hansen or tanev gives benning a ton of options would you feel comfy with edler burns hutton tanev as your top 4 d sbisa bart biega subban pedan tryamkin in comp for 3rd pair jobs next yr

Noble 6
I want Stamkos to go to the Islanders or Canadians. The Islanders might have the cap space if they move some guys, but the Canadians probably don't. I've always wanted to see Tavares and Stamkos on the same line. cripplereh
I would rather us spend that type of money on a couple D men and a forward to come here then on one player!

Perhaps, but that's not exactly much of a helpful comparison. If Stamkos is serious about winning, he's not going to be looking at either the Canucks or the Leafs.
