Hortankin
We're obviously not going to have a shot at the cup this year so lets get this rebuild started. I understand we want to stay competitive and we will. We could ice a pretty good lineup next year that could make a surprise push to a cup. Here it goes. To Van Yakupov Nilsson To Edm Markstrom Hamhuis (edit) Jensen 4th/5th Markstrom is really starting to come along and his big frame will be enticing to an Oilers team that has been long awaiting a stud goalie. Then they also add a pick and a big bodied prospect that could excel with a change of scenery. Yakupov is a great offensive player but lacks defensive ability. The former 1st overall pick is surrounded by quite a few players that are higher than him when it comes to offence in McDavid, Hall, Eberle, RNH, and Draisitl. Edmonton needs a Goalie more than they need Yakupov, and Markstrom is a young big bodied goalie with huge potential. With how Demko is playing he is more than likely our goalie of the future. Id feel pretty safe trading Markstrom and banking on Demko turning into our starter, the guy is a star in the making. To Van Conditional 2nd To NYI Higgins If Higgins resigns we get a 2nd, if not it becomes a 3rd. I know Higgins has NTC, but if there was 1 team he would waive his NTC clause it would be the Islanders. Higgins is a hometown boy who could really help on the Islanders PK. He is a great 3rd/4th line defensive player on a reasonable cap hit, unfortunately he has been forced into a top 6 role and has lost a lot of fans' respect, not mine. He is not in our plans for the future so lets get a pick for him now. To Van 2016 1st To Mtl Vrbata (50% retained) We retain 50% salary so Vrbata fits into Montreals cap. The Habs have a great team and can make a big run at the cup. They already said they are willing to go all in so it sounds as if their 1st is up for grabs. Vrbata has been having a down year but so has the entire team. You cant forget about the goal scoring ability this guy adds. I think we can get a 1st but id also take a 2nd, its better than nothing. Our lineup this year when healthy: Sedin Sedin Hansen Burrows Sutter Virtanen Baertschi McCann Yakupov Prust Horvat Dorsett :Cracknell, Vey, Shinkaruk, Kenins, Gaunce: Edler Tanev Hutton Sbisa Weber Bartkowski :Biega, Pedan, Subban: NOTE: Hamhuis could also fetch us a 2nd/3rd if he returns to form before TD. 2016 PICKS Van: 1st (1-15) Mtl: 1st (20-30) Van: 2nd Nyi: 2nd/3rd Van: 3rd Van: 4th Van: 6th Van: 7th Another 2 first round picks and 3-4 picks in the first 2 rounds can reall help speed up this rebuild. We should sign Lucic and resign hammer to a lower term if not we will need to find a replacment. Next years lineup could look like: Sedin Sedin Lucic Burrows Sutter Hansen Shinkaruk McCann Virtanen Baertschi Horvat Gaunce Edler Tanev XXXXX Sbisa Hutton Bartkowski Miller XXXXX Here is how i see our roster in 3-5 years (with these trades i proposed). Players i leave out i would want replaced by then. I want to try and find a stud LW to play our 1st line because Id like to have Shinkaruk on the 2nd. So im leaving Baertschi out because i do not see him as a bottom 6 player. XXXXX McCann Boeser Shinkaruk Horvat Yakupov Sedin Sedin Virtanen Grenier Cassels Gaunce XXXXX XXXXX Hutton Tanev Tryamkin Sbisa :Brisebois Subban: Demko XXXXX So IMO we need to try and draft/sign (2) top 2 D, (1) 1st line LW and then we will have a pretty solid team. Patrick Kane
Markstrom will not interest the Oilers, especially for Yak. Rest of the proposals look ok.
Ilya Mikheyev
^ Agree with @Patrick Kane, Nilsson has been a stud this year, so makes no sense for them to move him and a decent asset for Marky Mark.

I havnt been paying much attention. I had just Yakupov but the cap didnt match up so i just threw in their back up (nilsson). Does he look like a future starter? I thought Talbot was their #

I thought Talbot was their #1 Talbot has been streaky at best (.897 SVP, 4-9-1). Nilsson has looked pretty good (.910 SVP, 10-9-1), maybe not as much of a future starter as Markstrom, but not worth throwing in Yak for. Coach TM also seems to really like Nilsson. EDM deal is terribad for them. That lackluster package wouldn't get Yak alone IMO. We could even change the pick to a 2nd and I doubt EDM considers. I edited into my proposal And i also dont agree that its a terrible trade. Yakupov has not been that #1 pick they had hoped for. He is also a offensive player who cant play D. Markstrom would fill a huge need for them which is goaltending and his age fits well with this team. After that they will only need to build a stronger D and they can do that by shopping around eberle/UFA

Yak is only 22, Nilsson is the same age as Markstrom and is arguably just as good.
messier's_elbow
We need to draft defensive prospects. Minus a future first line centre, our forward group is set. Unless we get Mathews we should take the best Dman available.

LateNightBus
I am new here, hello! oldtimer Canucks fan. I like Markstrom also and Thatcher Demko as prospect, IMO Ryan Miller could be traded to free up cap space I hope we can get a good D, like Ed Jovonovski used to be, someone like an Aaron Eckblad or? guess this will have to be done with a ist or 2nd round pick? . VanNuck
I've long opposed the idea of tanking out this season... but the way things are playing out, and considering some of the prospects we could land, as well as considering our current player's long-term prospects for winning a Cup here, I've begun to open up to the idea. To that end: Deal Sedins, Hamhuis, and Edler to Florida for Savard, Bolland, Thornton, Mitchell, and their first rounder Ohh the irony, trading the twins for their old nemesis! But that aside, this trade is clearly a one-sided deal favouring Florida - my hope is of course, to let three of the greatest Canucks of all time get their hands on a Cup, and by making this deal, Florida could be a contender. Mitchell meanwhile can retire a Canuck (with two Stanley Cups), Thornton and Savard could retire, Bolland, well he could maybe reemerge in Vancouver or otherwise be traded at the draft... but this season, we're about rebuilding right? Rest of my plan TBC.

I did have the extremely controversial suggestion if we did get Matthew - seeing our forward group is all set, and seeing he is a strong two-way player - we play him on the blueline. One, conversion of positions is nothing new, even among greats. Sergei Federov and Red Kelly come to mind, as does Dustin Byfuglien and Brent Burns for our day. Two, can Matthew handle it? I think he can. He is very well rounded and defensively responsible, definitely moreso than a McDavid (who will never be a defenseman), can be about on par with Toews (regarded as the best defensive forward, could be defense if needed). He has the hockey smarts, skating ability, size, and puck skills. If he plays the blueline, well the team just needs to adjust to him, instead of adjusting him to defense. He can be free to lead the attack, act as a fourth forward (which will always be hard to defend). He's smart to know when to do that, and if the opposition ever gets the puck, well he is fast enough (and has plenty of help in Vancouver) to skate back into position to break up the play. He may not be able to defend against McDavid or Crosby, but I think he can defend Toews or Getzlaf.
