Zack Kassian told by MTL not to report to the AHL

All points towards trade. Imo

He would be valuable in the AHL

I still think Edmonton is going to take a chance on him and he is probably a toss in on a bigger deal

But who knows.

Um, he cleared waivers. Why would teams give up an asset for Kassian when hes cleared waivers in which any team could have had him for free?

Would be pretty bad on any managements part. I feel like Kassian's career is over. Hopefully he focuses on his life and solves his issues. He's such an amazing guy it really is terrible to see how his career is folding.

Hopefully the Prust/Kassian trade naysayers finally realize we won that trade.

Whether he's been traded or not, the question is will he even get an opportunity to play in the near future?

He's put himself in a really bad spot. The NHL is constantly moving forward, with new and young players who are all fighting to get on teams. Him clearing waivers shows that no current GM thinks he's worth a roster spot.

I think the most realistic wish is that he gets a chance in the AHL, and maybe proves himself to some foreign clubs.

Not necessarily true.  Guys are often traded despite having just cleared waivers.  He may just be one piece in a larger deal.

Yes but that often involves players on large contracts.. Zack is done in the NHL, at least for this season.

Definitely going to be interesting to see what happens, especially since according to TSN the team made the decision "after speaking with Zack Kassian's agent". Is he making demands he has no right to make? Did his agent give them a heads up that he might fail another drug test?

Either way, it's not looking good for Kass. I'm really worried that if he doesn't get his ducks in a row soon, the next time we hear about him will be the final time. :(

I've been saying on these boards how Kas had issues for over a year now. Well before the trade. Even got a 1 day suspension because news wasn't reported in the media yet.

Anyone surprised MTL doesn't want a drug addict around their prospects? I'm not.

The issue is how does a guy with Kassian's problems affect the rest of the team?  Especially young prospects.  And if they are fortunate enough not to be drawn into his world, how much conversation around the team is about the guy with problems and not about hockey.  Team building is not about adding dysfunctional members and dealing with their antics.

Also, how much of the team resources are spent on the guy with problems?

Wouldn't it just be easier to pick up a prospect who didn't have all that baggage?  10-15 goal players without personal problems are pretty easy to find.

The Habs would obviously pay Kassian to stay away from their team.  What other team would take him?

Guys, keep in mind teams still only have a certain number of contracts they can have signed at once. If Kassian is indeed part of a trade deal, the reason why he made it through waivers could be to simply clear a a contract spot for Montreal during the deal. It might be another team doing Montreal a favour or whatever.
