Another great effort, and yet another example of guys getting called up and playing well (sometimes even better than who they replaced)

Love the Horvat Bear chemistry right now....but feel really bad for Bo, he is working his tail off and skating creating chances but no luck :( hopefully he is due soon he deserves it

Pedan was solid, and once again loved Biega's game. Edler and Weber tend to back up and almost looks like they want to play goalie (23 feet away from letestu on the first goal???), lets get back to fundamentals and challenge the shooters eh!

Edler really needs Tanev for stability. At least it felt that way.

I've noticed that a certain King seems to tone his crap down when he plays here. Pedan is a great addition though.

Wonder who could that be, but doesn't make a difference to me.

That team is full of goons, punks and junkies who happen to be good at what they do for their day job.  They also gets away often with what other teams won't, thanks to being in a major US market. Their two championships were won based on physical punishment and psychological intimidation tactics.

I hate the team with the passion of the Christ .

Great performance by all the young guys stepping up - and Markstrom solid once again.

Edmonton with virtually no forecheck despite three regulars missing from the blueline and three young centers in the lineup.

Really impressed by that character win.

Pedan solid with some nice heavy hits.  Biega is a rock. Really good game for Baertschi imo - perhaps his best as a Canuck despite not scoring - did the little things well.

Miller

Tanev

Hamhuis

Sbisa

Sutter

Burrows

Higgins

limping Hank

Almost ridiculous to be winning games with that many regulars out of the lineup.

Looks like GMJB isn't anywhere near as good at tanking as some ninnies around here seem to think.

7th in the West under the circumstances is pretty much commanding of some credit for the management team and coaching staff.

I'm really digging watching this team at the moment, even with them being without several key players.

I'm still confused as to what I want as a fan though, unsure if I want to see them winning all the time or if I want us to get a top 5 pick this year. I just don't want another year of being knocked out of the playoffs round 1 and getting a mid 20 pick, I don't like being a middle of the pack team and that will get us no where fast.

it annoys me how stubborn management is. We been beating the drums to play Pedan for how long now? Obviously it has to take a another injury to let him play were Willie's golden boy somehow presents a better chance eg Weber. Pedan had a great time chomping down hot dogs in the press box I bet.

As a fan, I have to question managements assesment on the guys at the farm. For starters do they even watch? If they did they would notice Gaunce is on a role, and yet he will not get a shot until there is some huge injury. Biega playing great now but guess what injury had to happen. If management appreciated the players we have in the farm it would make sense. Like why the heck is Vey called up over Gaunce? again management confuses me big time.

wish list - trade Vrbata - bring in Greiner or Shink. Will it happen, not a chance.

It's adorable that you think JB, TL or WD care about your assessment of our AHL talent. I liked Pedan's game tonight, I liked the heavy hits, but he was very slow moving the puck and clearing the zone. WD played him a very protected 10 mins. It's been Willie's MO with the young players, and so far it's been the perfect recipe. He tries not to give the new guys more than they can handle. Brings them along in the system,  teaches them the 200 foot game, and gives them more responsibility as they grow. So I'm sure WD doesn't lose a lot of sleep when some anonymous poster on CDC flames him for not playing guys who might not be ready just because they don't like the guys we have here now.  I'm sure WD is in very regular contact with the braintrust in Utica, and knows much better than you who is ready, and what player's deficiencies are.

Serioulsy, play in the AHL is quite different than in the NHL.  Structure for starters.  But just because a player does well in the A has no bearing on his success with the big club.

Shinkaruk for example is lighting it up at better than a point a game in Utica and when he came up he was falling down a lot.  Look at the points that Vey put up in Manchester and how CDC tried to run him out of town last year.  It's a big step up.

Gaunce is close.  So is Pedan, Shinkaruk and Grenier.  They will get a fair shot at camp next year but in the mean time, they will have to wait for injuries to get called up to get opportunities.  Vey was called up because Hank went down.  He got another look tonight because Higgins is out.  Hank clearly isn't out of the woods so Vey will be hanging around for now.  Nobody bumps an NHLer otherwise in mid season.

I was almost in disbelief.....a Canuck D man stepping up and hitting players off of the puck.  Wow..good job Pedan.

Baer, Bo, Vrbata line looking dangerous again.  How many are willing to give up on Baertschi still?

Finally, how bad are the oilers?  A decade worth of cream of the crop picks and they still hover in the basement.  The disappointing thing is even if the canucks crap the bed here in the last few month they probably still wont get a guy like Mathews in the draft because the coil are always there.

The Oilers are improving, big time. Nurse and Draisaitl were two of their 3 best players tonight & LD looks like a handful?

They are also missing McDavid & Klefbom, who is hands down their best D.

This is not the Oilers of the last few years. They could make a run.

Well said.  I'm totally fine with Pedan getting 10 protected minutes in his first NHL game on D.  He looked like a stiffer version of Sbisa, and could have been exposed in some of the same ways with the Oilers' forecheck, but on the whole that didn't happen.  Pairing him with Bartkowski was a good idea since it excuses him from primary puck-moving responsibilities.  Pedan skates well once he's under way but his first step does look slow, and that showed several times.  But the physicality was definitely as advertized and he'll be able to take on more minutes at this level bit by bit.  All in all it was a great debut for him and I think Willie noticed.

Meanwhile Biega quietly moves up to the middle pairing and doesn't miss a beat.  A transition is happening before our very eyes.  Weber isn't playing terribly and isn't going to get waived that way so many want, but Biega and Pedan are catching up to him on the depth chart and may surpass him.
