Etem would be a better choice, but he's not fit enough to play those minutes. The Twins need a guy to be a puck hound, and Dorsett can do that, for a game or two - until Hansen comes back. IMHAO. Yes, I want us to draft in the top 5 (three would be better) but I always cheer for our guys to win.

It suggests that Willie is willing to cut rookies some slack as well as vets, which is not the dominant narrative around here. Must be because Etem did time in the Hat (just kidding)! That was a strong game from Etem against Florida and I'm glad Willie's giving him a green light. This is going to be a great pickup for us. Maybe it's time to get one of the former "Mind Room" employees to do a little hypnosis on Desjardins? Like maybe somehow implant the belief that all our prospects are actually former Tigers? But for now, we watch the likes of Hansen, Burrows, and Dorsett play with the Twins. We once traded for a guy (BJ Macdonald?) who scored 40+ playing with Gretzky. Of course, he did nothing with us. Dorsett can do okay with the Twins for a game or two, not because of his skills, BUT BECAUSE OF THEIRS.

Well at least that way the Sedins would finally get equal ice-time to Dorsett. What a concept!

I don't think it's so unreasonable to think that way. Being in the top 5 this draft is enticing. but seeing the guys win after having a pretty tough stretch is satisfying too. its hard not to be torn between the two this season. In reality they are technically competitive right now, right in the middle of the playoff race despite all the injuries and raw rookies in the lineup. Arizona is starting to get it together, but Calgary is crap, San Jose not much better, and McDavid isn't going to suddenly make Edmonton a contender on his own. To top it off, we've caught Colorado and Nashville for the wildcard. Once this team is healthy we'll see them separate from the pack and should make the playoffs as the #2 or 3 in the Pacific. elvis15
Has anyone mentioned Etem yet on this page, because if not I just did. Etem. There, I said it again! But if it came to who to play with the Sedins I'd lean to Virtanen over Etem short term. McCann might be a reasonable choice as well, and probably a better one than the previous two. That's no knock on Etem, but it's important to note that while he forechecks like the devil himself is chasing him, he's not gritty so much. He won't be the kind of player to stick up for anyone or get in the mix, but rather he uses his speed to draw penalties while taking very few himself and playing an otherwise clean game. That requires him to have his hands on the puck a bit more and I don't know that would suit him. Virtanen can play that crashbang role a bit more, and McCann would be deadly in the slot or any open seams he can find while the Sedins cycle. Both play with a bit more grit and of our young guys (without breaking up Horvat/Baertschi) they'd make more sense.
86Viking
I dont think Etem would be a horrible option to spot in with the twins at some point. They have never had a player on their line to step up and protect them. Most of their linemates were either right handed shots, or could adapt to their style quickly and stuck with them. Sedins can still shoot the puck down the ice and let Etem beat out the icing call and feed them the puck as they saunter on in over the blue line to set up some sedinery. Any footage or knowledge of how good Etem's hand eye co ordination is? I ask if he could be used to tip pucks in front of the net, Burr is and has been that guy but we could use someone for the 2nd pp unit.

They're where they are without all their horses, with key ones coming back shortly. All other things being equal, they're almost certainly not going to drop in the standings. Gaudette Celly
Sutter, Sbisa, Hansen, Hamhuis, Miller, etc. Getting them back relegates the Webers, Prusts, Cracknell's to the pressbox. If you don't see the improvement of the team already of late, you haven't been watching.

But I wonder too, what their record will be, after this upcoming road trip. If they're below .500, and farther and farther from the playoff race, then I can see Benning selling. If we're close, I can see Benning staying put. I prefer the former option, as it will force Benning's hand to trade the veterans for picks, and prospects, which is what this team desperately needs. elvis15
Just because they're playing well together, with some chemistry. Etem isn't an overly aggressive player from what I can tell. I don't think he looks for massive hits or opportunities to get involved after the whistle, and you see that in his lower penalty totals. I'm still getting a better read on him though, and I can't watch hockey as closely as I used to.
