J.I.A.H.N
After reading some of the newer proposals, it comes to me that Benning has to do something aka trades. Now it could go either way, he could either sell off vets, or he could pick up a couple of players, due to the fact that there is no separation within the division.....so you either sell some pieces off to gain asset (picks) or you sell of assets to pick up greater assets(higher end players). I am mixed on which way he will go, as there just isn't any real separation of teams in our division......#2 to # 6 really are all within striking distance of the playoffs...... To do nothing would be to again let assets rot on the vine and walk at the end of the year......why would he do that, unless he was going to add to make a playoff run, ensuring Francesco his playoff gates. It just comes down to asset management We have spent the last 20 to 30 games working our way down the League standings, and yet we are still in a position with a couple of wins to jump right back in the thick of it..........Bettman got his wish for parity. Everyone, with a few exceptions will be close to a playoff spot until well into Feb - March I find it ironic, that a team could actually loose all their games and still get into the playoffs with 82 points................something the Canucks are trying to do in an odd way! (Not, but you get the idea) It certainly will be an interesting 2 months............my hope is he sells........my mind says he doesn't! Francesco says he is a fan, but in the end he can't help himself........he is a businessman.......show me the money! Benning will follow his orders

What he shouldn't do is read CDC or run off half cocked and do something stupid (based on what somebody else with the same name as the owner read on CDC). Moving Higgins and adding Etem is according to his plan. Higgins play fell off the table. I fully expected him to be able to contribute on the 3rd line this year but was clearly wrong. The addition of Etem (which was opportunity based) may well have forced Bennings hand on Higgins but it doesn't change the fact that Higgins days were numbered. After half a season, it's not just a slump. Moving Higgins is no different than moving Bieksa was, it's the natural turnover and must happen. Adding Etem is no different than when he added Vey, Clendening, Pedan, and Baertschi, all in their early 20's and on the verge of becoming NHL regulars. So there's nothing new here. What is new is that Benning said outright that he will be in the free agent market in the summer in an HNIC interview last night. This confirms to me what we on CDC have been talking about for some time and that is, certain players on expiring contracts won't be back, some holes will be filled with free agents and Benning will be stock piling draft picks if he is able to trade some of these players. Again, this is all according to plan. All systems go. Full speed ahead Jim.

Again, this is all according to plan. All systems go. Full speed ahead Jim. I think there's a bigger plan overall which he's clearly following. The plan is to get younger, faster, bigger. Every GM has a plan and they follow the outline of the plan. Etem trade probably developed the day of the trade or a day or two before. AV said NYR were going to send Etem to the minors for conditioning stint the day he got traded, so that tells you the trade came out of the blue. No real long term plan to make that move. A player came up and JB made the trade. Aqua is the man who makes the ultimate decision. He'll set the direction and the budget for the team going forward. It seems Aqua has made the decision to write off the year and introduce more youth, hence the Higgins trade decision. Every team is in the market for FAs in the summer. Benning isn't releasing state secrets, pretty much known facts. What many people will be surprised at in the summer is the type of FAs he goes after, I don't think he'll be in the market for top tier UFAs. He'll concentrate on 2nd tier D and maybe add a forward. We're not disagreeing. Benning's and Linden's plan has been discussed at length along with the budget and it has been approved by the owner. I'm not arguing that Benning goes off and does what he wants but he has to have the discipline to stick to the plan. The owner has to trust Benning and Benning has to trust that all his hard work won't be over ruled by the owner. It cuts both ways. Trading for Etem was an opportunity that I think came up in the last week and surprised everybody. The Rangers gave up a good player for him (Hagelin). He fits right along with what Benning had done several times before. There is precedent here as there is precedent with shipping out Higgins. The plan is being followed. That's all I'm saying. I'm not saying this is the whole plan but I think it's safe to say, since it has all been done more than once, that it is part of the plan. As for state secrets, all that he said is telling me that there is more to come and I say, bring it on.

Wilbur
I do not see Benning adding to make a run for the playoffs. If that was in the cards, trades would have been made after the Hamhuis and Sutter injuries. IMO, Vrbata will only be traded if one of the two scenarios hits: 1) Benning simply gets an offer he can't refuse 2) The Canucks fall out of contention. As of January 10th, I don't see either scenario hitting but a lot can happen in 6 weeks. With Hamhuis, the Canucks don't have much depth on defense, doesn't matter if their in contention or not. Plus, I think he is a guy that could resign. Yeah, he hasn't had the best season but it may not be a long term trend. Burrows. A tougher trade to make than a Higgins deal. Unless Burrows asks for a trade, I wouldn't expect anything mid-season. Miller. Doubt that will happen either. Having both Markstrom and Miller compete for playing time next year isn't a bad thing anyway.

What do you mean, "do as he is ordered?" Are you saying JB has no vision of his own to create a Cup competitive team, and will do only as Aquilini says to do? I think JB believes he is a superior scout, who sold Aqualini the pitch that he can build a Cup team WITHOUT top draft picks, allowing the team to keep their vets and compete for playoff spots, while retooling. I personally believe JB, who everyone sees as this humble speaking guy, is really very arrogant. He believes he can out scout the other teams, and build his Cup core by picking in the latter half of the rounds. He did just that in Boston, or some say he did. He got central core guys drafting outside of the top half of the rounds: Bergeron, Kregji, Marchand and others. I don't agree with his philosophy, but obviously Aquilini does; he approved the hire. LOL No, not really WS, but honestly, Most of CDC if not about quotes and clips, it is conjecture and opinion, and there are people on here that have such better opinions than mine and I love drawing their opinions out....some times they agree with me, other times they correct me, but most of the time they inform and question me, and I like that! It makes me think! But by insulting me, you insult those posters that see the merit in my post, or the fault in my post, and take the time to discuss it, in a mature manner, if you don't like my posts, that is ok....just don't read them, and let us discuss that, which you deem "not worthy". Let I remind you that it was guys like myself that was calling for "Asset Management", way before it was popular......lots of posters did not like that at all, some just didn't respond......but months later, it is openly discussed, I would like to think I had a "little" part in that........it is not that I am right or wrong, but that it draws opinion So thank you for your opinion, as you can see, other share your view, but others tolerate me, and get what I am about.........just saying......hope all is well......and thanks for reading all my posts!
