Ovechkin gets his 500th.

Best goal scorer in history of NHL.

Fastest guy to 500 who didn't play in the 1980's.

Only Gretzky, Lemieux, Bossy and Hull did it faster and they all played in the 80's, no defense and sucky goalie era.

Same thing goes for 300 goals and 300 assists, he's also 5th fastest and only one to do it not playing in the 80's.

Yeah I think he's the best goal scorer ever as well. He was unstoppable his first few seasons.

Damn, wikipedia is quick:

Quote

The 43 players to score 500 goals consist of 32 Canadians, five Americans (Brett Hull, Joe Mullen, Mike Modano, Jeremy Roenick, and Keith Tkachuk), two Finns (Jari Kurri andTeemu Selanne), one Czech (Jaromir Jagr), one Swede (Mats Sundin), one Slovak (Peter Bondra), and one Russian (Alexander Ovechkin). Jari Kurri has the honour of being the first non-Canadian to score 500 goals.

Of note, of the goalies/teams to allow the 500th goal, a Canuck team or former goaltender was involved in seven of them (Gretzky on a Canucks empty net, Joe Sakic on Dan Cloutier, Joe Nieuwendyk on Kevin Weekes, Dale Hawerchuk on Felix Potvin, Jeremy Roenick on Alex Auld, Frank Mahovolich on Dunc Wilson, and Stan Mikita on Cesare Maniago)

No doubt he's one of the best goal scorers in all of hockey, and one of the most entertaining players that we've had the pleasure of watching in this age. He scores, he hits, he skates, he's one of a kind. The perfect villain to the Canadian "hero" Crosby during their early years. It will be a real shame if is name doesn't get engraved on the Stanley Cup.

respect for Ovechkin, awesome player but he is 30 this year that leaves him with 3 years left at most in his prime before he starts to fall off. even if he plays into his 40's cant see him scoring another 394 to pass gretzky. sorry but just don't see it

My fav player, WSH is the team I'd like to see win the Cup other than Canucks but yeah, he's not going to catch Gretzky.

Not unless the game changes in a big way and goes back to 1980's hockey no way, which is not happening. To make things harder he missed 1.5 seasons to lockout, that's another 70 to 80 goals right there.

He's not getting another 400 goals.
