(Proposal) Draft Day Trade

Recommended Posts

On paper, the Ducks are one of the best managed teams cap-wise, with their array of R.F.A. players, and Sami should be regarded as nothing less than a key cog moving forward (according to Hockey News, he plays around 21:36 per game and has seen less than 20 minutes only once since the beginning of December.  He's also a 1/2 p.p.g. defender who's cost-controlled, right-handed, mobile and likely just hitting his prime).  Doubt they let someone like him, who just broke out last season, leave for what's essentially less than a $3.65 million dollar offer sheet (which gets 1st and 3rd in return).

Instead, I'd go after a similar player from the same hometown in Olli Maatta.  The Penguins are top-heavy, with already ~$67 million tied to 16 players, before considering R.F.A's.  With guys like Hammer and Vrbata coming off the books now would be a prime opportunity to take advantage and offer sheet him for around $3.6 million so we send a 2nd their way while getting a young, left-handed D-man with offensive ability.
