tons of optimism about dropping 16.5 mil in salary at the end of the season, but I have yet to hear any of you 'official fans' take a look at the whole roster - Utica and here.  yup, drop that 16.5 and grab all of the free agent stars!!  but don't any of you goofs know that we have as many as 13 ufa's to resign?  baertschi and vey and pedan and grenier and more.  my math skills tell me that if they drop 16.5 and have to cough up maybe another 5 to resign some of these guys that we're left with likely less than 10 to play with.  i'm assuming some will definitely play for the nucks.  and if we make any trades we'll only get a partial reduction on the salary dump - if any.  big difference between 16.5 and 10. rosters change and we'll see some of that, but try to keep it in perspective.  babbling about the magical 16.5 without taking other costs into consideration is a waste of web space at this time of year.

You're not wrong but as you elude to, their are a lot of moving pieces including the possibility of moving/buying out Burr, moving Miller etc this summer as well. Not to mention that depending on who we do sign via UFA may effect other trades and movement of salary.

I think it's fairly safe to say we'll likely have $10-12m to play with on free agents but, you're right, as of right now there's a LOT of potential variability.

Yeah, I could see Higgins and Burrows either traded (with retention) or bought out this offseason.

I think Miller stays, at least until the trade deadline. All of his money (and then some) will have to go to Horvat, Markstrom, and Hutton for 2017/18...can't use it on long-term free agent deals anyways.

Welcome to the board rookie.

Pretty sure he's including our RFA's and prospects, a good number of whom will no longer or aren't waiver exempt.

Baer, Vey, Etem, Pedan, Kenins, Cannata, Fedun, Grenier...

What I see,

Vrbata - Prust - Cracknell = 8 mil.

Miller - Hammer - Weber = 12 mil.

We have to re-sign Baer and Etem, so about 15 mil in cap space.

Then the following year Burr and any residual from Higgins comes off, plus hopefully the cap goes up, to re-sign Bo and Hutton.

That said, a lot of those guys won't cost a ton to re-sign and likely a few will be waived (and likely clear) or traded, not re-signed etc.
