[Report] Roster size isn't the only reason Prust has to go.

The irony is, he had a great start to the season.  He was faster than we had been led to believe, sparked the team with some early season fights (or maybe "grapples" is a better descriptor) and had some chemistry with McCann, who hasn't been nearly as effective since Prusts's ankle injury.

He was a decent penalty killer, and when perming Prust, Dorsett, Cracknell and McCann, for a time they were arguably our best line some nights.

Then the ankle injury, and he hasn't been the same since.  Play has suffered, but there is no need for the hate for him.  Whatever happened to the "thrust for Prust" movement?

(And listening to WD, either he is showing amazing solidarity with a player prolly on the way out, or he actually took the decision himself to play Prust vs Rangers, without pressure from Prust.  WD explains it that way, at any rate)

He was an interim pick-up, and who knows if throughout a healthy complete season he would have lasted in the line-up anyway.  But clearly his effectiveness has gone, and he should be soon, for whatever we can get for him

Hansen has been so good his season. hes a valuable asset to the team with the way he's been playing. his goals are definitely a plus. he's not expected to score on this team. his role was never that. I remember I used to remember when people kept on saying that he had hands of stone. haha

Prust and Vey for Tucker Poolman from winnipeg. Hoping Vey has a big game or two as I thought his trade Value was increasing as of late until that unfortunate goal... I think the jets may like what prust CAN..bring and with Sutter back and the way Jannick has played with twins..  Sutter will be 3rd Center. So do we really play Vey as 4th and go down that road again... He doesnt play that role well and last time it showed he did he proved he isnt strong enough to win draws in our own end and cant play tough hockey. His role is a top 9 play making guy and if him and Prust could fetch this right shot goal scoring young dman, as well as dumping the needed salary to bring back Hank and Sutter. I see that as a win for both teams and players involved..and allbeit a chance on a young kid who be on the farm team for a while but could help reinforce our right side when Subban comes up! Kid could pan out we seem to have luck with low drafted dman.

Yeah, I'm not totally convinced the claim about Sutter putting them over the cap is right.  It all depends how they've handled the replacement players for Sutter's, Sbisa's and Hamhuis's long-term injuries under the cap.  They may have accumulated some headroom while those guys were out.  This is somewhat technical stuff, and the article doesn't really go into the details.

Exactly.  Their claim re the cap is incorrect - it doesn't work that way.  It's not a static thing but it's influenced by the amount that has been banked.  Unfortunately cap sites give the wrong impression because they just take a daily snapshot while it's in fact based on daily accruals including all that has happened in the past with call-ups/demotions.  Also they present it wrong by simply putting Sutter's cap in negative when in fact it gets added on and the upper limit gets adjusted (but not up to the full Sutter cap - there are other factors that intervene).

When this trio was the best line of the night their counterparts played poorly. I'm not trying to take away from their effort.

I think the problem people are having with Prust is his attitude plus his total lack of speed. He's done here. He just didn't work out for more than one reason.

Lack of speed more than anything does it for me.

Yea he does look slow for much of the game, add to that the fact he doesnt do even half of what Dorsett does every game.

You see Dors chirpin and pushin back nearly every shift, prust not so much unless its staged and he can escape the game with his pretty boy looks. Hopefully a team can give a 5 or 6th rounder for him.

I don't see Burr going anywhere.  He is a good insurance policy as a proven winger for the twins, is a good penalty killer, seems to be doing a decent job at mentoring Etem and Vey, and as well, is a top-notch agitator.

Like the Steamer, he's a lifer Canuck

I think you're right: Burr is not going to be moved, at least not this year.  He's wildly overpaid for sure -- the entry level/early career contracts for Horvat and Hutton are less together than Burr's alone -- but that's the way the NHL has set it up. Players are all overpaid when older (but not too old!) and generally underpaid when younger/new.  That's why you want a team that is either willing to play at hometown discounts or that is mostly quite young.  You can kind of see where the Canucks are headed on this one lol.

Hmm - facts don't support your thesis.   I analyzed the stats since Vey was called up, as regards face off wins in the defensive zone.  Horvat has most DZ starts, followed by Vey

Horvat: 179 face-offs, 81 wins for a percentage of 45.25

Vey:  82 face-offs, 39 wins, for a percentage of 47.56

McCann: 35 face-offs, 13 wins for a winning percentage of 37.14

Others* 82 face-offs, 30 wins for a percentage of 36.59

* Henrik, Cracknell, Zalewski, Prust, and 1 each by Hansen, Burrows and Dorsett

Now you see why WD has confidence putting Vey out for defensive zone draws in the closing minutes.

I grant you, though, that Vey doesn't have the toughness to be a 4th line center, but he is our best defensive zone face-off man.

Honestly though, would probably get a very good return for Hansen right now rather than waiting til he has no value.

He'd be a great pick up for a legit contender.

I keep looking at the nhl site hoping to see prust traded. Sadly disappointing every day so far.

The comment about the kids having to stand up for themselves did it for me.

That comment did it for me too.  He said they had to learn to stick up for themselves and that it wasn't his job....

That literally IS your job!  That's why you were brought here!...  or should I say WAS your job...

Mentoring the kids...FAIL!  Protecting the kids to give them a "safe learning environment" as Linden put it.....FAIL!

Bye Bye Prust!  Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out!  We'll be lucky to get a 5th round pick.
