Ilya Mikheyev
Quote Lou Lamoriello is going to work. The Toronto Maple Leafs general manager has been heavy on the phone in recent days, calling teams around the NHL to weigh the trade market and let other executives know what he has to offer... Lamoriello has been gauging teams’ interest in rental players Roman Polak, P.A. Parenteau and Shawn Matthias, veterans who are all in the final year of their contract... Also Dan Winnik, signed a two-year, $4.5-million (U.S.) deal in the summer after a strong showing last season that landed Toronto two draft picks (a second- and a fourth-rounder) from Pittsburgh at last year’s trade deadline. The other name out there is goaltender Jonathan Bernier, who has another year left on his contract at $4.15-million... According to executives from other teams, it’s tough to swing a trade right now, for a variety of reasons. One is that so many teams are still in the playoff race and unwilling to concede they’re done. That could be a small advantage for the Leafs, as they’re one of the few confirmed sellers... Unless they start shopping Leo Komarov, Parenteau (23 points in 46 games) is the most enticing name, and he likely only fetches a second-round pick... Ilya Mikheyev
Wouldn't hate the idea of getting first dibs + maybe a playoff run with Roman Polak for a 3rd or 4th rounder—providing Benning is able to bring in some picks through other means (Vrbata, Prust, etc). Master Mind
Quote According to executives from other teams, it’s tough to swing a trade right now, for a variety of reasons. After the trades we've seen recently, I find this a little hard to believe. I hope we don't try to acquire any rentals, we're not in a position for that. Let some team like Pittsburgh trade even more of their picks for these players.
TOMapleLaughs
There's no value in any of those players and losing them may actually improve TO's performance, tbh. At this rate i'm questioning why no team has any interest in keeping Matthias around. Personal probs?

RonMexico
Acquiring these guys is like getting hand-me-downs after they have already been handed down three times.
Warhippy
Toronto media the ONLY group that over values players on a team more than CDC over values there vets while undervaluing their prospects When isn't Toronto open for business? Now to hear Dreger tell us how Polak is worth a 2nd and 3rd and Komarov or whatever is name is who is leading the Laffs is worth a 1st and a prospect

coastal.view
matthais is an example of the economics of the new nhl the elite and very good players will command a huge chunk of the cap the young players with potential (high draft picks) will command then next tier of salary due to the many bonuses contained in their contracts the depth players, 3rd and 4th liners, are all expendable and interchangeable and will paid less and shown no loyalty that is the trend i see anyway
