Canucks are young enough that a gamble to move Miller and put Markstrom as #1 has time for that to work out. Finding good back ups is fairly easy these days. It is all about the return. I am hoping that Benning can move these vets and gain prospects and picks that he might be able to trade up in the draft to get the player he wants. Trading up in the draft is a great idea. Chances greatly increase on getting elite talent the higher the draft position.
Gaudette Celly
The only way Benning will acquire more veterans is to resign them as keepers, not as temporary help, as evidenced by the acquisitions of Sutter and Dorsett. Prust on the other hand was more a result of getting Kassian off the roster. Eriksson would be taking the roster spot of a youth, thus we won't be getting him. There is no indication that JB figures we need more veteran help, in fact we will be disposing of more shortly.
BeefcakeBo
Ugh. I hope the Canucks stay far away from this guy if he is available. Don't want him as a UFA either. It's the perfect way to chew up 5 or 6 mill cap space for a guy that only plays half the time. Soft, old and riddled with concussion problems. No thanks. To think he was the center piece in the Seguin deal? Would Yzerman take a similar trade in Hansen for Drouin?
DownUndaCanuck
Rather sign him for free and slot him in with the Sedins as our replacement for Vbrata.

He's playing way above his value right now because of his ice time with the Sedins. Basically his value should be right around the same as Anson Carter a few months into his first season after he wasn't resigned by the Canucks. So Yzerman is not as stupid as... who was part of the management team in Boston when Seguin was traded?

Well to be fair Seguin was dropping a deuce on his career in Boston. I kinda doubt he would have pulled himself together if he wasn't traded. And Seguin had a much better NHL resume than Drouin does now. Hansen for Drouin would be a very fair price based on that Seguin precedent. IMHAO At that point in time the return was fair, because Seguin was spending his time drinking himself way under his potential. There was no guarantee he was going to fix problem that in Dallas. It was a gamble that both teams took.

Alflives
Just now, LarsEller said: He shouldn't, just Hansen isn't equal to the return Boston got. Drouin is worth less than Seguin, so Hansen looks about right. Hansen and Gaunce or Shinkaruk would be more than equitable. Again Seguin was a participant on a Cup winning team, who was successful at the NHL level. Drouin is only a prospect, who might have NHL success. As with the Seguin trade, it's a risk. But Drouin's a bigger risk.

Exact reason why Horton didn't resign either.

More seriously, Horton married a quality person.

Drouin still has value as potential to be a top line player. Trades are going to be multi parts on both sides to find a balance. Yzerman will likely trade Drouin + to get a better return. Like Drouin and their first for an actual top 6 player and some lesser prospects.
canadiangunner
We won't be in on Erikkson...thank god! Also, Benning called Yzerman on Drouin and was quoted Horvat, Benning rightfully hung up. The real play for nucks is gonna be cap space for the summer where we could get some decent UFA's...if your in dreamland we could make a run at Stamkos, fire Willie and get Guy Boucher :). Most likely we take a run at lucic.
