Looking ahead at the roster...

I was curious looking ahead at the roster the next coupel seasons and started forecasting how things would shape up. It showed some interesting possibilities at the makeup of the team and forced shuffling and trade scenarios by GMJB.

OFFENSE

Sedin-Sedin- XXX

Baertschi - Horvat- McCann (moves to wing)

XXX - Sutter - Virtanen

Gaunce - Granlund - Etem

Pushing for a spot - Boeser/Rodin (if signed) for Top 6, Stewart/Friesen/Cassels/Labate for bottom 6

Moved along - Burrows/Hansen/Higgins/Grenier/Dorsett/Kenins/Blomstrand/Fox

Future scenario - Canucks flip a blue chip prospect for Top 4 D prospect; Canucks dip into the UFA pool for toughness and immediate top 6 help (Lucic? 4th line fill); one of Baertschi or Shinkaruk make the team or get traded (accurately forecasted)

DEFENSE

Edler*/XXX - Tanev

Hutton - Sbisa*/XXX

Biega - Tryamkin

Pedan

Subban

Pushing for a spot - Subban (PP QB 2nd/3rd pairing), Pedan (bottom pairing), Brisebois (bottom pairing), Neill (mid pairing puck moving Dman)

Moved along - Cederholm/McEneny/Weber/Hamhuis/Edler & Sbisa (after their contracts run out)

Future scenario - trade for a blue chip minute eating D man; 2016/17 draft focus on high ceiling defensemen; adding a  PP QB specialist as UFA; stock up the cupboard for spots 7-10 and also AHL (really weak pipeline)

GOALIES

Markstrom

Demko

XXX (Veteran AHL backup)

Pushing for a spot - XXX

Moved along - Miller/Bachman/Cannata

Future scenario - Canucks sign a college undraftee or KHL/UFA goalie for the Comets; sign an AHL vet to 2-way deal who could play minutes in case of injury or if the youth flounder

So when you look at the next couple seasons a couple things are apparent:

1) Time is running out to find top elite prospects to replace the Sedins

2) The D prospect pool needs a significant boost

3) There's a hole for the 3rd string backup goalie position

4) Bit of a bottom 6 logjam

5) A current blue-chip forward could be dangled for a top flight D man

Fantastic Post LUi

You are bang on.   D looks way too weak.    Next year is last yr that Sedins are a top line.  They go to 2nd the following yr.

Still need a UFA to play with sedins. Still need a top 2 D man. Edler should be 2nd pairing.

Next yr again looks like a major transitional yr  - i could see our team decline a bit more  in wins compared to this year due to kids too young and losing vets  / aging vets.   We could be like Calgary this year...

Great post.
