I had never heard this before, so I decided to do a little digging....

Nowhere could I find a photo or video of Johnson laughing, but as @Ilunga pointed out, it definitely appears as though LBJ insisted on being sworn in right away and he was insistent about who would be in attendance. The final call on whether she would attend the swearing in was Jackie's, but Johnson made it clear that he wanted her there.

What I didn't know was that RFK and LBJ hated each other and that Johnson called Bobby from Air Force One to (in his words) ask for Kennedy's advice on the transition. After the call, Johnson claimed that it was RFK who advised the transition be done right away, but Kennedy tells it differently.....His description was that Johnson asked and that he was too stunned by the question to respond.

It's all laid out in this excellent article from the New Yorker, which delves into  LBJ's standing before the assassination and his precarious position politically, which explains his reputation (at the time) as insecure:

As far as the "laughing" claim goes, I think it possibly originated because of Congressman Albert Thomas, who for some inexplicable reason winked at Johnson, at some point during the ceremony:

The Wink

It's hard to tell, but it looks like Johnson might be smiling in response....

I think that might be the shot and my 'error'.  I recall reading something about his behavior that day a few years ago.  Can't recall where.

Democrats. But they hadn't yet lost the South in those days....

What changed in the south?  Did Carter win the south?  He was a southerner.  I like Carter.  He seemed like a genuinely decent person, but was fighting against the US military establishment, and they (kind of) crushed him.  Biden seems to be following a similar path.

Carter won his home state of Georgia.   He also won Minnesota, West Virginia, Maryland, Rhode Island,  and DC.  And, there were a few states that he lost that were close.

The most common reasons for his defeat are.  3rd party candidate, Iran, energy crisis, recession and wasn't as good of a campaigner as his opponent.

I agree that he is a racist, but he's not the kind who would be wearing a hood back in the 60s....He's more the kind of person who would see a black man at an exclusive club and automatically assume he was one of the help.

He wasn't even ok with them being the help.  Trump's racism began long before he met those neo-Nazi pieces of trash.  He absolutely deserves his share of the blame for the hate speech that has flowed out of his mouth for his entire pitiful excuse for a life.  Make no mistake, he is every bit as evil as the oxygen thieves pulling his strings.

I think the gist of Trump's brand of racism is that he just doesn't care about minorities and never will, until WASPs become one.

The true architects in Trump's exploitation of racism are Steve Bannon and Stephen Miller. These two absolutely would be part of a lynch mob, if they were products of the 50s and 60s. They steered Trump down this racist path to the presidency and as stupid as he is, Trump understood that it had worked for him.

Ever since, he's been stoking the fires of fear: Fear of minorities replacing "real" Americans....fear of Socialism....etc., etc....It wasn't his idea, but he was basically told by Steven and Stephen to "be himself" (lying misogynist who cares for no-one outside his tribe) and it worked.

This is why it irks me when people call him "crazy like a fox", or some kind of genius for tapping into the collective angst of middle America. He deserves very little credit. The evil genius is and always has been, Steve Bannon.

A racist is a racist is a racist.

Need I remind you of the central park five.

I am 99 percent certain he would've slipped a rope over their necks and pulled the lever given the chance.

While a full on racist the words genius and Steve Bannon do not belong together.

As I have stated before there was no one of even average intelligence in the Whitehouse during trumps tenure.

It was literally a gathering of interbred hillbillies.

He, and this is well documented, loved to whip it out and show everyone how well hung he was too.

While I am not into that sort of thing myself some buddies of mine kinda popularised "dick tricking"then Morley and Friendy came up with puppetry of the penis.

They toured the world with that show and made a great living.

Here's a deal.  TRUMP releases everything without a fight, and there can be another investigation into the terrorists death.

It's just another case of Trump playing to his base...he doesn't GAF about Ashli Babbitt, other than the fact that she probably would have voted for him in 2024....

An investigation would be pointless. We already know who shot her and we already know why. IMO, the insurrectionists are fortunate that Babbitt was the only one shot, because I guarantee that if they were BLM protesters, there would have been more.

Here's the thing: When you break into a building that houses your nations elected representatives carrying weapons and restraints and start yelling about hanging them, you should expect to be met with force.

Did Drumpf just give the government permission/consent to charge him? He said the family deserved justice, and he was the instigator of the events that day, he would be largely responsible.

Can't hide behind 'executive privilege' when you have called on the DOJ to investigate.

Well if she was black....
