Winter Soldier
Just now, stawns said: exactly........kids who score almost 2 points a game in the WJC aren't lacking in offensive creativity, that's for sure. I mean, do we look at Horvat's offence as some sort of anomaly because he was billed as the most complete player of his draft? We sure don't. Many posters are clamoring for Travis Green to be our new coach but strangely seem to ignore the part where TG preaches strong play off the puck. If you'd read the thread at all you'd learn that he's of similar size and weight, he's just better without the puck. I'm tired of people reading 'strong two way game' and immediately writing them off as lacking creativity or offensive talent. Hopefully what all fans gain form this deal is a better understanding of the process which leads to trades. IMO Benning has been more open about his process than any GM the Canucks have had. It certainly appears to me that Linden and ownership are on board with that process. It does not guarantee success with every deal but it makes sense to me. Ashby17
All I have to say now is that we have had previous success with European players named "Markus" in seemingly unpopular lopsided trades... Time will tell. IN BENNING WE TRUST.

cocanuck
It will be interesting to see how Granlund fits and certainly how he does. The problem most people have is that they saw glimpses of pure skill from Shinkaruk in his very limited time playing exibition games for the Canucks. He did look very good in his only game in the third period of his one call up this year. I still remember the goal he score two years ago where he shuffled his feet twice on the left side and completely fooled the goalie with a shot up over his shoulder from a very difficult angle in an exibition game. His performance then almost made the team and he was one of the last cuts made that year. That goal wasn't lucky it was pure skill which is something we haven't seen around here in a long time. I really hope he does well in Calgary and am sad he never got a chance here. People defending Benning have to remember he was part of a decision making process that traded Seguin and Wheeler out of Boston.. Just food for thought and always debateable

Makes me wonder... Was Benning's solution to win a cup in Boston? I dont think all of his moves have been great hits - Corrado on waivers etc etc...but I think he has made some good moves too and so far he has picked up guys like Boeser and McCann in the 20ish pick range in the draft. Pretty good Id say. Also, after seeing how guys like Hodgson and Schroeder turned out I dont get too excited about smallish one dimensional scoring forwards who put up numbers in the AHL and/or Junior. Its too early to tell who will be the better player in the long run (Granlund vs Shink) I think his plan is to get bigger on the wings where winning puck battles on the walls vs the big bruising western conference teams will be a prerequisite for success. Unfortunately the smalish PP goal scoring specialist Shinkaruk doesnt fit that mold.
Nucker 67
Wondering: If Granlund is a C and played with Baer on his L-wing, how will they play again on the same line if Horvat is the C? Baer and Granlund are both L-shots. Do you think they would do: Baertschi - Horvat - Granlund? Burrows seems to be slowly nudged out of the picture. It was great when we had valuable assets that never got moved. You understand the difference here don't you? Please tell me you understand the difference between a goalie in his early 30s asking to get traded out of here and management doing nothing for 2.5 years, and a 21yo promising forward prospect who's on the uprise. I wouldnt mind maybe trying to get mersch from LA or even Andreoff as a 4th line guy who actually hits Targeting a brett ritchie would be ideal he has size

Sure there may be some skilled guys that may not be huge on the wing but I believe his goal is to get bigger on the wings as time goes on - hes not done yet. wallstreetamigo
I just looked at Granlunds faceoff numbers. Hopefully that changes. Like we need another center who can't win a faceoff to save their life.

Getting tired of watching this team get pushed around. This reminds me, we have to get rid of Dorsett. The guy plays with intensity, but he also does things that hurt the team (bad penalties after the whistle). He's basically a s-disturber who's looking for trouble, instead of picking his battles and sticking up for team mates at the right time. Getting tired of his undisciplined play lately. But, if we trade him or let him go, we need to replace him, hopefully with a player who's over 6' and can hit/fight when needed.
